13b engine questions

so i am looking at buying a rx7 and i see mainly power levels described. being new to the rx7 i am uncertain of safe pwoer level for this type of engine. assuming all mods are done to support fuel and air delivery, what is the safe power zone.

i have found a local car tune @ 390 whp and 351 tq.

any help is very appreciated

At 400whp or more the rear plate on s4 is prone to cracking and breaking, the late s5 turbo models have a thicker casting that won't break as easily.

I'd say 300-350whp if you are running the stock block and want some peace of mind

If you're adamant about getting the Max power you can get --yes you can run 400whp on a stock block, youd need a great tune and all the right supporting mods , still you'll have an increased chance to crack the rear iron its not garaunteed you wont, especially during detonation/fuel cut.

He's right assuming you're taking about an fc. Put more information in like that.

Yea a fd can handle 500+ whp on the stock block.

Fc blocks are slightly weaker but still plenty strong.

welcome to the board.

unfortunately, your question is a bit vague on all fronts. as said in the posts above, the specific 13B block is a factor. however, the package as a whole is factor as well. you can bloody well blow up a 13B at the 300 HP levels as easily as you could at the 700 HP level. the package counts.

also (and this is simply an opinion, so ...) at this level, maybe trying to start out with a 390 HP Rx-7 is not the wisest move. it's better to "learn" on something closer to stock.

Agreed, I'm getting my first turbo rx7 running in the future and I'm going to be running it near stock when I first get it going.

Better to be safe then sorry.

400 HP looks good on paper but tuning is very critical on a rotary as well as unforgiving when tuned wrong.
