where to get my car detailed? (Md)
where to get my car detailed? (Md)
I'm looking for a place that I can take the 'ole FD and have it detailed (outside, inside, engine bay steam/pressure cleaned, etc.). I'm in the Aberdeen (Harford County) Maryland area. Can anyone make a recommendation a reputable establishment for me?
Thanks
Thanks
I use to do this for a living when in Junior college. Learned from a 20 year vet and prior detail shop owner. $150 and I'll do it. And you'll know your car will be taken care of and that is still probably cheaper than a shop.
do what i do... do it yourself. i used to have my parents take the Infiniti to get it detailed for 120-150... now i got the materials and a porter cable polisher and everything for less than 300 bucks. i cant trust detailers so i detail it myself and know its a quality job. and with www.autopia.org i couldntve done it. so i suggest checking that site out. why wouldnt you wanna spend a nice sunday outside with yourcar shining it up? lol
my wife asked what i wanted for my birthday... so i figured... now's a good chance to have it done for me. the reason i don't want to take time and do it myself right now is because between two jobs and school, i only have 2 weekday afternoons, Saturday night and Sunday to spend with my wife.
AMRAAM, i might just have to take you up on that. I'll let you know... but hey, when do i get to see the new setup?

You didn't ask for a threesome w/ one of her girlfriends?

I need to get some better detailing "tools" and all, but well, that's another day another dollar.
bahh... well try finding some people on www.autopia.org thats near you. theyll do it for you and i would only trust them. most auto detailers ive seen dont know what theyre doing to the paint and end up doing more damage (deep marring). most just dont give a s*** because its not theyre car and they just want their money quick. good luck!

Unless a paint job is utter dogshit, buffing the car with a power buffer IS WRONG. If this is what you meant, then people should ask before hand what the detailer is going to do.Detailing is not rocket science. It's time consuming, common sense, and attention to detail. You dont' need some person from an internet webpage to make them "valid". Look at all the people on here who don't know **** about RX7s, but they are here....
^ i dont know what kind of "power buffing" youre talking about. paint doesnt need to be "utter dogshit" to need polishing. there are some polisher which can easily mar the paint (usually rotaries because they have a ton of torque) and some polishers that makes burning into the paint nearly impossible (like the PC)... dont tell me you havent seen those cars that have been "detail" come out with marrings all over the car. im just saying there are a lot of places where the detailers dont know how to use the machine and cause damage to the paint.
thank you for proving what I just stated. A hand polish with a good wax is all that is needed. Might take more than one coat though, which would increase the detail cost. However, there should be no way "most auto detailers dont know what theyre doing to the paint and end up doing more damage (deep marring)" if they are hand polishing as is all that is needed. "utter dogshit" paintjobs require a mechanical high speed buff with compounds and polish. And even then, it's only superficial for a while. Only way to get back good paint...is to repaint. I firmly believe most detailers know this, once again, it isnt' rocket science.
Perfect Touch in Glen Burnie is who I've had great success with. Not the closest to you (35-40min) but he's the only one I can recommend. I bought a bunch of stuff to detail with (got a brand new Porter Cable in the box) but haven't found the time to even mess with it myself. Someday I'll get around to it... maybe after I finish the wiring, suspension and interior and actually start driving the car
