Emissions is only required in the very north part of Virginia... If you're navy, you'll probably be down in Newpoort News or Norfolk or something... No emissions there... Nothing to do there either AFAIK.

There is information on the the Virginia DMV web site. For example emissions:
https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/webdoc/.../emissions.asp
If your vehicle is garaged in the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, or Stafford, or the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas or Manassas Park, your vehicle must meet the emissions inspection requirements. Inspections are valid for two years and may be obtained by having your vehicle inspected by a certified emissions inspection station.
If your vehicle is being registered for the first time in Virginia and has a current valid emissions certificate (performed in the last 12 months) from one of the following states, it may be titled and registered without a Virginia emissions inspection:

Its amazing
How many people what to comment of what goes on around here , when they dont even live here . There is plenty to do here . There are several clubs around here , we try to get together once a month and sometimes meet at the go cart track for races. We have "Extreme Sports Wednesdays" through Oct - http://www.langley-speedway.com/extremewednesday.asp . There is a road race , once a month that is open to the public . This is just a few things off the top of my balding head
Good luck

The weather in VA is pretty nice...not cold at all compared to NY. If your around the beach area (which would make sense) then you may get snow once a year...don't worry this snow will only be around for a matter of hours. This is a pretty typical winter.

Dude, you are probably going to be in the Norfolk, VA Beach area. That is where most of the Navy bases are. I work at *** Norfolk which is a base that has 60,000+- people working on it (depending on how many Carrier Groups are in port). This is a beach community. It have been 80-85 degrees the last couple of weeks. It does get in the 90's during the summer, but that is also good weather for the beach.
Weather around here is OK (not perfect). I admit everyone has different tastes, but there is also lots of good stuff going on around here. I think it is a great place to live. Traffic is not great, but not even in the same league as places like Washington DC. I think any young single person is going to like it here (beach weather also brings out beach clothes). Lots of tourists...
And to anyone on this list, this is the web site we use to keep the RX7 people connected:
http://rx7.meetup.com/55/
or this thread here (go to the end to see what is happening lately):
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showthread.php?t=157384
Check out the meet pictures. We have race tracks nearby (drag strips, road race tracks, oval tracks, autocross sites, multiples of each) that we all play with our cars at. Car Shows are pretty numerous, there is an indoor kart racing track our club races at from time to time. Water sports are huge in this area. If you like seafood, this is heaven. There are several outdoor concert sites that have numerous shows every week from spring to fall. It seldom snows (once or twice a year) but there are ski resorts a few hours drive.
Anyplace you live has its good points and bad points. This area can be great, but if you want to make it a pain in the *** it can be. I happen to like it here.
