Should I buy or fix..

I have a 1979 Rx-7 GL. It was my fathers. He bought it new in '79 and stopped driving around 1990. (He has since given the car to me) About 3 years ago I was bord so I went out and started to poke around the car. About two mouths later I really got into it and my life revolved around that car. I took the interior out and about 45-50% of the engine out. The rotors are frozen to the block, the brakes are shot, and it needs a new tranny/clutch. I have talked to a fellow RX-7 owner and I talk to him alot and he says that with the condition of my car, the best thing to do would be to keep this one and buy a cheep (under $2000) '79 and use mine for parts. Do you think that this would be my best bet? I don't have much money, but enuff for the 2000 dollor car. Should that money go to mine or the new one? Any answers will help me alot.
Thanks.

If you really like the car and the only "major" problems are the motor and the brakes, why not just replace the brakes (Autozone probably has all the stuff you need for stock replacement for a couple hundred bucks) and just have the engine rebuilt? Someone was just advertising rebuilds for less than $2k on here the other day.

I have a 12a that needs a home. spins free, I believe it will run-- I pulled it to put a V6 in, so I had no real intrest in getting it to run. If you want it, I'll just ask for shipping and handleing.
