soooo how did it happen?

niburu 01-04-08 07:46 AM

Well he arrived at my folks place out in Stuarts Draft where we were all spending the holidays the day after X-mas.
Upon unpacking the car he found that they'd left the suitcase behind with most of the presents at his fiances parents place up in NY.
So in his haste to go out and get some more (he's just gonna return the original ones now) he backed into my car.

Fender Roller

Hey does anyone know who has or rents out a fender roller locally?
My friend Brian (orange Cobalt SS sc guy) needs to roll his rear fenders.

grendel_2000 01-16-08 12:44 PM

ye ole bat method is fun and actually works relatively well, if it is not a show car of course.

It's a 2007 Cobalt SS supercharged with the sunburst orange paint, it's kinda showy but he autocrosses it alot as well. He has a set of AT Italia 2 peice wheels that he wants to run 225 Falken Azenis on this season, the car is lowered on some Eibach Pros so when he is full on they do rub. (He also just got the GM Stage II done to it as well and a bunch other stuff I can't remember, some show, some go.)
He's still making payments on it soooooo he'd like to avoid the bat method if possible.

Agreed, that car is far too pretty for the baseball bat method.

Found the tool locally & conferred with him on email, situation handled...

Jon

you have to take a ride in his car this Sunday, the stage II tune and new catback exhaust really woke the car up

oh, and what time shpould we be at VMP ?

getfast 01-16-08 02:04 PM

Sweet, I'll definitely try to bum a ride.

If only there was an event info page on the internets that had a daily schedule posted... oh, wait:

Hahahaha,

Jon

hopefully tomorrows snowfall doesn't kill things - snow on the course would be fun, but the drive to get there might be scary

anyway coffee @ Starbucks for me tonight

niburu 01-22-08 03:50 PM

Coolant seal going?

Over the last few weeks the car has been filling the overflow tank and not pulling back enough coolant to keep the low coolant ligh and buzzer from going off.
So I replaced the rad cap and made sure the rubber line to the over flow tank wasn't cracked or dry rotted - it seems fine to me.
I have taken the car into my regular mechanic to pressure test the system, he's not done yet but I got a call from him just a little while ago.
Apparently there is pressure being built up in the system before it is even getting hot.
Exhaust gasses getting into the system somewhere maybe?

Doesn't sound good. At least it is a slow process, maybe it will hold out for a while longer.

this sounds like an excuse to go lsx.....

or maybe buy one that is already built!! :)

getfast 01-22-08 04:25 PM

If only there was such a thing locally, preferrably in a stealthy color like... for instance... flat black.

the problem seems to be when the engine cools down and seems worse as it gets colder
what I'm thinking is the metal expands just enough to seal it once it up to temp
OR the ambient air temp is up around 80 degrees
I would have to ad coolant maybe once a month in spring and summer
(or after say a 10 run autocross)
right now I have to add coolant every day to get the buzzer to not go off
BUT I can drive it for hours once it's warmed up and not lose any coolant
it just won't pull the overflow back in for whatever reason
and yes i replaced the radiator cap
andthe thermostat and housing neck are new
and the water pump is about a year old
and the radiator itself is about 3 years old and is a dual pass with a brss top and bottom

good thing I gots a back-up car or 2 to run

niburu 01-29-08 07:46 AM

for those of you that don't pay attention to the starbucks thread Skizzle (Scott) is trying to get a good RX-7 showing this friday

skizzle84 01-29-08 08:14 AM

lets do itttt! Its been so long.

niburu 01-31-08 08:18 AM

From the NOAA site

Friday: Periods of showers before 11am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11am and 4pm, then a chance of showers after 4pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 54. East wind 10 to 17 mph becoming southwest. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between one and two inches possible.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming clear, with a low around 34. West wind between 7 and 16 mph.
So as nasty as the day is going to be looks lie it'll clear up by coffee time and prbably not be all that cold out either woot!

Surprisingly the Bars-leak stuff I threw in the coolant may actually be working.
I wont be doing anymore mountain runs anymore till it's rebuilt though.
Should be fine for autocross and I may even push my luck with some of NASA's TT events at VIR again this year.

Is the motor acting up in your newer white car or the black one? I hope it all works out well!

So, post up if you plan on coming tomorrow. I am almost certain I'll be there, but have got to check up on something first..

it's the black one that's been spitting too much coolant until it gets up to temp
I'm going to switch into DD status next week to see how she holds up

the white one has a slight over heating issue not when I'm on the highway or at a complete stand still but in the 20 mph range
I'm pretty sure the lack of the undertray prevents ramming the air through the extra thick Koyo rad like it should
Ive had the white one sit at idle in my yard for over an hour and not go past the halfway mark in the slightest
hood pines are on the agenda for that beasty as well, the CF hood flex WAY too much on the highway
