well I am now officially a RX7 owner.
About a 1/4mile from my house the logicon lights up everything.
crap
look at guages everythings ok
100 feet from the driveway I get a shot of steam from the hood
crap crap
coast into the driveway, check guages temp guage is at 3/4
shut the car down and flip the hood open
the alternator belt is broken and the water pump belt is off
I thought all the belts were new but appparently the alternator belt wasn't
guess I'll need to get a repair manual
it's dried and cracked on further inspection on whats left of it

cafcwest 08-15-04 11:54 PM

Dude, Sunday when me and Joe where over John's house and all you and Mike did was go 'bike this, bike that', I just wanted to through a rotor housing at you or something. Come up and see us sometime damnit!

onepointone 08-16-04 05:08 AM

Looks like the drift event was fun in the rain.
I picked up the GTU this weekend. To my surprise, it runs and it's not in bad shape at all. I pulled the spare motor apart and everything is junk except for 1 rotor housing, so that kinda sucks. Should be a fun project!

niburu 08-16-04 09:49 AM

On continued further inspection I don't like one of the other belts either, so I am going to replace them all. I must say it is real easy to get the belts off and on compared to every other car I've ever owned, the tensioners are very easy to work with.

niburu 08-16-04 12:35 PM

well over lunch I bought the rest of the belts, ran home at lunch and removed all the belts and got as far as getting the new alternator belt on

Zach McAfee 08-17-04 07:35 AM

Sooooo, did you fix it? Another rex for the auto ex?

Zach McAfee 08-17-04 07:46 AM

I need a few parts, can anyone help me out? I don't feel like going to CAP, because when I do they see me coming and get rid of all the 2nd gen RX-7s:

Drivers side FTP
Radio Surround
Drivers side door trim

niburu 08-17-04 08:14 AM

the belt for the P/S pump doesn't fit right, friggin autozone
I'm going to go to NAPA for the last belt (where all the old belts are from)
I am 99% sure I am running the rex at the sept 26 AutoX @ VMP
for the sept 19th event out in Verona (BRRSCCA) I'm going to run the Ghia
my parents bought a place out in Stuarts Draft back in January (15 minutes away from Verona) they have a really nice workshop/garage, it's 900 sqft
my sway bars for the ghia finally arrived so that should tighten up the cornering nicely

niburu 08-17-04 08:31 AM

Hey Zach,
I just remebered, I still have the original radio/cassete deck from the rex does it have the stereo surround you need or is that a seperate component? (noob question I know but well hey I am noob to these cars) You can have if it's watcha need, I had a new sony cd player put in the first week I had the car.

cafcwest 08-17-04 09:09 AM

Zack, I've got an S5 surround and shifter trim. Give me a call, I'll cut you a good deal. 687.6199.

I need the whole surround piece (around vents, controls, ash tray, ect.), but I can use the stock stereo. Hopefully the old plug is still in tact.

niburu 08-17-04 01:33 PM

ok thats whats meant by the stereo surround, stereo was working when I had it taken out, and looks to be in good shape, it's all yours (glad I didn't chuck it) and got the belts back on at lunch today, put in a 1/2 gallon of coolant, and runs just fine. Tonight I double check the belt tensions.

Zach McAfee 08-18-04 07:41 AM

Thanks Jayson! Looks much better!

Still looking for driver's side S4 trim. Anyone?

niburu 08-18-04 07:50 AM

yay!!! drove the RX& to work, the belts seem to be tensioned fine
Zach: I can bring the radio to the next autoX or meet up with you at some point

Zach McAfee 08-18-04 10:37 AM

I didn't realize how far away the next autoX is... maybe we should meet up? I'll be in touch.

niburu 08-18-04 11:59 AM
