Questions about PA inspection
My fd just went through inspection and didnt pass. I have a c-west front bumper and was told the bulbs on my 99 lights need to be amber instead of blue. On the sides of the bumper there are vents. He said there should be side marker lights that go into those slots. My last question was I have a main cat but not a front cat. Do you need both or just the main to pass inspection because I was told I do.

Yes, you need both cats but most inspection stations probably don't know about the front one.
I'd check around with some ricer types and find out who does their inspections and take your car there.
Also, if you drive your car less than 5k miles a year, you can get an exemption for
the emmisions test. At least that's the case up here in Luzerne county.

you can always spend 5-10 bucks and buy amber bulbs just for the inspection. and if you take the car to any old place they probably wont know how many cats are supposed to be on the car. As long as you have one and you tell them thats where the orig was it shouldnt be a problem. I was good friends with a tech and he always hooked me up. maybe you can do the same.....

Oh, too bad.
Only positive is, you can probably find a pre-cat cheap, since most people take them off. Try KD rotary in Reading. They probably have them laying all over the place.
Only alternative is play dumb and tell them that your mid-pipe IS your front cat.
They might go for it since only your rear cat is connected to your smog pump
line. Hope you have a smog pump.

The previous owner had basically all of the work done at kd rotary, but I can try to check with them. The only problem is I go back to school in about a week.

never heard of a law that states you have to take it back to the same place within 5 days. why so they can fail you again??? take it to a little back street garage and have them do it. also never heard that you cannot replace you bumpers. this sounds like a bunch of crap to me. just take it somewhere else and have them do it.

I'll try. I think its just because they have it down on paper. I also needed to replace my front sway bar end links for it to pass. Does anyone know a good site for those.

I think if you take it somewhere else the only difference is you have to pay the full inspection amount again. So you 'save' like $10 if you go back.
Mine passed np without the precat. It's the other stuff that's harder to get around. If they ask questions, you just tell them that a mechanic in PA installed the stuff, so ??. Also the dumber the mechanic the better. ;o)

Broken end links don't fail inspection. Either do blown struts.
Just a FYI. I passed a car last week with broken sway bar end links, and blown struts.
That's New York though... I don't know if Pennsylvania could be THAT much more strict?

I know that you have to have side markers on your car if they were an original stock item....
also, if he has already hooked it up for emissions...that maybe the reason why you have to take it back to him....because Penn Dot via the computer can tell if youve had the emission test...especially if it failed...
Im not sure at all about this 5 day then tho..

Take it somewhere else. You bring it back to them in a week, and they redo all the tests for free. That's all that's going on there.
I register all my cars up in Clearfield county, no emissions up there. The old dudes I take my cars to will pass anything. Last month they passed our vert with bald rear tires, and nothing left of the brake pad on the front driver side. I went in on a Saturday when they just wanted to get the hell out. Bullshit with them a bit, they ignore most anything.
Granted, I fixed those problems when I got home because they were hazardous to my health. However, I knew those were problems, they NEVER addressed them to me.

Normally the inspections are only hand written and only give you the decal, nothing more...they give you a rejection temporary decal for like 5-30days depending on state, with written problems on the back of the sticker, just say FU ******** and drive away, take a blade, crape the decal off and take it to another location and say i just took my expired one off so that it looks cleaner...
The only downside is that you have to pay for the inspection again...

In PA they've added an emissions inspection along with the regular safety inspection. So to be an emissions inspection station, the garage had to buy some $7000 PC (worth about $70) that dials into PennDOT and reports the emissions information. It's designed to improve accountability, although mostly it just allowed the garages to charge $40 and $50 to do a visual emissions inspection.

Yeah, a place I get my gas from SHELL and do emissions and inspection on unmodiefied cars, just got a thing that reads OBD2 and is awesome, they just look under the hood, to check for signs of improper equipment and safety, and plug a line into the diagnostic OBD2 port under the dash, start and run the car for like 1min and presto...pass or fail...now thats hot...
The downside is that the inspector mechanic told me is that for the 69-1995 cars with OBD1 or none, will still be doing the dyno tests and soon to come, road test emissions testers...hmmmm :/
PS
The guy is a jerk to all modified cars, hense why i dont take my 7 there...there are too many ricers down here...lol
