Pocono Trackday Anybody???

Check it out, im trying to put together a track day at Pocono Raceway's North course track. Basically its Run what you Brung. there will be a tech there for tech inspection prior to your entrance onto the track. Im working right now to see if i can retain a couple of instructors for those of you that are new to the track and would like to learn the right way to drive your car on a road course.

The cost for the day will be 170 dollars for as long as the track is open and however deep your pockets are for fuel.

when i get enough people together is when i will let you know what the day is going to be and it will most likely be on a weekday because the track is because the track is booked solid for weekends mostly due to other car clubs and racing schools.

please PM me for details as track space will not be open forever. this will also be a rain or shine event and you will have to sign waivers as to not hold me, pocono raceway, or anyone else on the track at the time for that matter responsible for damage done to your vehicle. Chances are that your insurance won't cover the damages if any inflicted on your car during a track event so be smart and drive safe. This event is to have fun safely and to keep it off the street. I was told that if this event goes down without any problems that i will be garranteed a spot for next year and maybe a weekend spot based on the attendance and revenue generated.

Right now i am shooting for june 21st or the 30th. but if not it will have to be july 4,5,6, or 7th

If there are anymore questions, like i said pm and i will respond.

Oh and by the way Nitrous is prohibited. Pocono Raceway rules.

Yeah spread the word to other forums as well. No discrimination for this event. The more the better. I'd like to see my fellow rotary heads represent.

Was going to cherry pick some fellow members for a track day at millville this spring.

But poconos is not that far from me, maybe ill go with your group when you set a date.

EDIT: nevermind saw the dates. That will be too hot for my comfort. Let me know if you decide in may.

Those were the only dates available but i will be notified if other dates become available as some clubs tend to cancel as the track date draws near.

I checked the 2011 SCDA schedule and pocono is not on there. I was looking forward to trying this track as it is close to me. I will check back here.

Rob, a bunch of us plan to hit either Lightning or Thundebolt with the PCAA in April. I'll post a thread as the date draws near. My goal is to double last year's track days to six in 2011, in addition to DGRR

Im a noob too dude, ill prob spin out in the first corner lol

I just wanna go for fun, i dont care if i do worse than a blind person. I just dont wanna go alone.

But i also dont wanna go when its 90 degrees outside. I dont understand why people like to plan rotary meets in the dead heat of summer when heat is a true killer to our cars lol

It should be like an rx7 meet in april or like in october, not july lol

It's on bro. I just don't wanna think about buying a new set of tires cuz the tires on my car now have 70% thread and they are like $250 yeah

I'll be keeping an eye out for any events around the area. I too have to go out with an instructor as I register myself in beginner classes. So any events for experienced drivers are no go for us. I am trying to do at least 3 events this spring/summer: Limerock, and both NJ tracks (lightning and thunderbolt). All 3 being realistically close. Watkins Glen and New Hampshire are too far for me

Check out scda1.com for schedule. It's pricey, but I would certainly welcome a cheaper alternative at other tracks with other organizations.

Im no pro but i doubt we're gonna be pushing our tires to the limit. Like beefhole said, we'll be in beginner classes meaning we have instructors so we're not gonna be going all out aimlessly.

My tires have 80% left but its enough meat for my hp, and i do some hard cornering on the street and i think im good to go lol

But you have alot more power than me so idk.

There is a short skinny shitty track at englishtown thats always available. But its not even worth bringing your car. Its still a track though and people say its alot of fun. I wouldnt wanna go there though.

Price isnt a big deal for me if we can get ample time out there, with or without an instructor. I just wanna be on a freaking track lol. I been watching so many home made videos on youtube and best motoring dvd's and im pulling my hair out because i wanna do that so bad lol

Driving hard on the street is nothing like the track. It's like comparing apples and... terminators. Or something.

There will be plenty of opportunities for track days this coming season. We'll get something together; I will definitely let people know my plan and hopefully we'll all see one another at the track.

would be interested too. I did this once a LONG time ago (back when I had my Talon). It was a blast. I'm very much a track noob, but I'd love to get my 7 for this. Still to far out for me to commit, but I'm VERY interested.

What do you mean by no instruction?

Meaning the pre-race class sessions? Or like instructor in car?

Or is it like drag racing? You show up, pass tech, then hop in your car and go on the track?

Also what is the average total time that day you're actually out there? Like actually your car on the track? 1 hour, 2 hours?

Just some noob questions im sure alot of us track virgins wanna know lol

-By no instruction I mean there are no in car instructors provided by the people hosting the event. These are for people that have done many track days and are able to safely handle there car alone. Unlike drag racing you can't just jump in and go unfortunately, it could be a dangerous situation. Coupled with in car instruction you can expect to have several classroom sessions to go over driving dynamics and driving on a racetrack.

-On average you will have four 20-25 minute sessions throughout the day. As you become more advanced you may be able to do some open track days which may have 6-8 hours of track time a day.

-There is a tech inspection so you need the car in good working order, no leaks, good brakes, etc...

Damn im getting excited to go now lol.

So the no instruction days, im sure there are divided groups of people who regularly go to tracks and people who never went right?

My car doesn't leak or nothing like that although I do have my battery located in the hatch but its not "professionally" installed. My battery box is strapped with a buckle strap and I wrapped it around my rear strut bar. The battery box has never moved on me in 4 years of driving.

Are they **** about stuff like that? Last thing I want is to go there and they fail me for something minor yet not fixable right there and then.

It's awesome you're getting exciting, when you get on track you may find yourself in debt because you can't stop doing track days lol

On the no instruction days there no people on track that haven't been on track before, you need an instructor for at least a few track days to truly be safe out there. When you hit the track you'll see why you need that instructor in the car with you.

Why not post a picture of how the battery is set up and I'll give some insight on if they would except it or not, hopefully others will as well because more opinions would be best. I think several organization prefer the battery to be enclosed.

I sure hope i get addicted. 8 years into ownership with this car and it has never seen such track abuse. I need to put the car where it belongs. lol

Ill take a pic of my battery setup this weekend. It looks secure but might be ghetto looking to others. The battery box came with threaded rods but i didnt want to drill into my hatch for that permanent setup. I figure a buckle strap around the entire box and over the rear strut bar was secure enough which it is, but for racing purposes it might not fly.

Ill snap that pic for you and maybe you can give me some ideas.

Thanks man for all the info.

Don't forget that despite being race tracks, there are sound limits believe it or not (on some). So anyone with open wastegates you will not be allowed to run at certain tracks (one of the many problems with my FC).
