Photographing Rotorfest...

I'm mainly posting this to see the interest in a cd/dvd of the rotorfest event this year. I usually snap a few hundred photos or so, but this year I'm sure the number will be MUCH greater and if the interest is high enough I'm willing to distribute a disc with the photos of the event. I don't have a video camera anymore, but I may be able to get some video using someone elses camera.

The main thing/product on the disc will be the still images that I will take, depending on interest the number of images will vary. Getting prints of specific images may also be an option once again if there is an interest.

Images will of course vary and I'm also willing to shoot individual cars if you'd like.

For those that will obviously wonder I'm using a Nikon D1h camera body (greatest thing for you hands since hand lotion) with various lenses as well as an SB600 flash. Well...I guess I'll just sit back now and wait for replies. Details of the disc and any customization you wish will be discussed after the decision is made. I'm going to shoot regardless of the replies, but wouldn't mind ensuring that others get some good shots and less hassle for themselves.

Thank you,
K

P.S
If you are CERTAIN that you will be interested in a disc please PM me as well as post here to be certain that I know.

Is there anything in particular you'd like to see on the disc...would you like a specific look for the disc. I do have a lightscribe DVD burner so I can put whatever image (please be in reason though ) you'd like or label on the disc.

What are you willing to pay for the disc assuming it has a few hundred images on the disc. I can ALSO do images of just a specific car with specific sizes if you wish to get them printed yourself at full size (4x6, 5x7, 8x10, maybe larger).

I'm contemplating adding a specific section to my gallery of smaller versions of the images to give you a preview of what you can "order" for your specific disc. I'm also willing to offer a disc of random images for a specific price if you don't have any specifics or don't wish to worry about getting sizes suitable for printing.

Let me know what you're looking for please.

Thanks for the interest,
K

The price of the disc would depend on the amount of interest (aka it will obviously be cheaper if there are more people). Either way the price won't be very high in the first place.

As for payment I'd be willing to set it up through paypal (easiest way I can think of and I don't want to take payment at the show w/o giving you the product).

Video might be hard for me to do since I don't have a video camera any longer, the only video I may be able to do is with a fuji s5100, but if you guys want them we could prolly do something about that. I won't be the one shooting them though since I'm doing the photography portion...and I anticipate shooting around 1500-2500 images or so *gulp* maybe more. Depends on how good of a day it is

Now that I might be able to do pretty easy...now to find the time to burn so many dvds haha. Sure a CD wouldn't be better then again I could make it a video cd and you could still play it on a dvd player.

As for sizing...are you interested in photos large enough to actually print for framing or whatever you wish? Of course it wouldn't be EVERY photo on the disc due to pricing (that would be a bit more money...unless you guys are willing to pay I'm definately willing to sell full size images as well).

Word, I'm all for some friendly competition, I'll still offer the samething I spoke of earlier. Remember my friend it's not the camera that makes a photo it's the eye behind it...8mp could be a downfall for you so bring it

I guess we'll have to see who has the best photos then, got any work I can look at besides what you had on your site (vacation photos etc...if that's it then you got nothing on me .
Glad to see you rep the Nikon though, nothing better than that if you ask me...nothing.

Btw, Rob yea I snap a decent amount of photos every year I go I just don't really put them up on the net. 2004 had it's own reasons due to some of the controversy that went on that year so I didn't put up a single photo that year. This year is different though, I'm very certain that I'll take anywhere between 1500-2500 photos of this years event (between drag, portraits, and the cars themselves...prolly some caravan shots as well).

Oh yea, Jason if you're down maybe we can shoot together and make something of it? I believe I'm only gonna bring 1 camera body with me to this years event (might bring 2 bodies so I don't have to switch lenses too often plus I might wanna do something for very large prints if needed). I'll have PLENTY of storage (more than likely I'll bring two 2 GB cards, a 1GB card, and a laptop with 16 GB free...maybe the burner too) so the only thing I have to worry about is shooting shooting and more shooting.

Oh yea, since I now know you're not using an SLR (1 point for me j/k) what are you using...P1,3,4...8400,8700,8800. I'm curious about those cameras and how good they are as a "backup" or "walkaround" camera when I don't feel like breaking out the big boy gear.

Haha, it would be an interesting fight...I wonder who else is planning on shooting seriously at the event. I haven't really noticed ANYONE else shooting here, just a few snapshots here and there.

YEah i just got the cool pix 4, its better than my Minolta F300, the only things is that it has so many options for different settings it feels like a professional camera.

Its a great camera but for the automatic picture taker the Minolta is more user freindly, the NIKON peopple want you to tkae your time and adjsut every setting to get that perfect picturer. At rotorfest i just run around taking pics here and there. I usually take 2 pics of every car there, front shot and back shot (oh yeah back shots!).

But in all honesty im not gonna rain on your parade, im just gonna be taking regular digi pics to post on the NET like i always do, nothing fancy for me. I just want to share the pics with people that couldn't make it. The pics on the Photobuckets are bumped down considerably to like 250kb (fuckerzzzz).

But im sure your pictures will be great and if you are selling them i will support your cause =)

Dont want to **** block your money , jsut wanted to bust yo chopz

I remember looking at your pics before though I didn't put 2 and 2 together...I guess the heat was getting to me Last year I was just out of it and didn't feel like making a disc so I only snapped around 100-150.

In '04 I snapped more photos, but didn't really put any up (especially any videos) due to the craziness of the year. Didn't wanna incriminate anyone on the boards for getting a bit too crazy.

Haha, I remember seeing your pics the first time and I was like...dayumn! This kat has mad love for NY and NJ dudes! Seemed like every car had a NY/NJ tag on it I'm sure I've seen you before and just didn't know it was you so I was prolly sending the rotary love just cuz I saw you with a camera, gotta preserve the memories.

I never run into a problem getting shots of the cars. As long as you let people know that you're taking a photo (it helps if you bring out the big guns as well ) they're usually more than happy to make room for you.

I loved my Fuji S5100 (newer "update" to the S5000) it had a lot of features for not being a pro bodied camera. Resolution was very nice the only thing it really lacked was a good buffer (it was 3fps which great, but only had a 3 frame buffer) and write speed was somewhat "sluggish". Awesome though, I've thought about picking up an S9000 lately to use as something to break out when I don't wanna scare the crap out of people with the D1h. Funny...people love pro photos and equipment til they see it in person j/k (not to mention it sounds like a machine gun when you get serious with it).

Video was also very good on that camera! I was pretty shocked at the quality and sound from it. It's in good hands still as I passed it on to my sister (who usually gets my "old" camera when I decide it's time to upgrade).

I've only barely used an Minolta cameras though I've heard very good things about them and I almost bought one of their Dimage models as a walk around camera.

I used to own a Nikon D50 (F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C) which was simply awe inspiring at what it could do. Factor in the cost of the body ($700 when I bought mine) and it's simply too much to handle. I decided that despite the greatness I needed more speed (my type of work requires lots of speed) and more robust features and handling (plus that D50 is UBER lightweight and I like some weight) thus I decided to move on yet again (once again it's in good hands though not my sister this time).

I used the D50, D70, D70s, D100, D200, D2X, Fuji S2, Canon 20D, 30D, 350D, 300D, and a bunch of other models. In the end the D1h is the only one that was truly perfect for me (not even the almighty D2X is greater IMO). D2X and D200 were close, but they both look too "digital" for my tastes, D200 needs a battery grip (which I did have for my D50) and was missing some things I wanted, and both have more resolution than I need by a long shot (at least at this time and more than likely for a LONG time...I don't print billboards and I can print very large quality shots with my D1h anyway).

Okay I just realized I wrote a biography on my camera life (well part of it anyway) which you never asked for, but anyway now you guys know

Still wish I'd have the other 2 new additions to my family before Sunday but it ain't gonna happen (Sigma 100-300 F4 and 70-200 F2.8), but I have others that will still give me the reach and will work just fine.

Okay seriously last thing I'm gonna say...I don't hate Canon, but D@MN do they make some ugly @ss cameras that just feel plain weird!

Word, I'm glad that I'll actually know who you are now. In case you didn't look at my gallery already here is a pic of me...

http://www.pbase.com/kamukix/image/59010606/medium.jpg

Can't wait to see everyone there...everyone should put up a pic of themselves so we don't look all retarded when we try to find each other.

As for video I'd LOVE to make a banging video, but I don't have the camera (though I'm tempted, but my photography won't give me allowance money to spend ) and I wouldn't have the time to do it anyway . Plus to me a thousand words aren't enough to describe a good photo
