Old ladies shouldn't drive new cars
The way I think it happens is the tires don't drive directly onto the rock. If you run the wheel along the side it will climb up.
One time I saw a pickup on the highway drift into the center divider, which is about 4' tall and has a steeply angled face. The tire climbed it a good foot before kicking off.
