Official Skyline Dr. Cruise Thread for 10/17/2010

Hello all,

Due to a bunch of clutter in the "Chic" thread and at the request of a few forum members I have decided to let us have out own thread for discussion. I'm under the general consensus that every one would prefer Skyline Dr. as apposed to Harpers ferry and Blue Mountain Dr. so that makes most of the decisions very simple to set up.

**Meeting Spots**
Now I'm in the understanding that most of the local 7's attending this event are in the northern Va area so I have come up with a few meeting areas that would work to everyones benefit(no back tracking)

1. Rest stop on I-66 West.
The rest area is on the right side of the road right between the Centerville and Manassas exits (mile marker 48 to be exact)

2.Wall Mart parking lot in Manassas off I-66 West
This parking lot is literally right off of the Manassas business section(exit 47A)
**Directions**
1. Merge onto I-66 W toward FRONT ROYAL

2. Merge onto VA-234-BR S/SUDLEY RD via EXIT 47A toward MANASSAS

3. Turn RIGHT onto STREAMWALK LN (very first light after getting off 66)

4. The Wall Mart lot is on the left.

If anyone has any other suggestions of where to meet I'm open to anything.

**Time**

I'd like everyone to meet at 9am and we can all leave together around 9:45am just to make sure everyone has time to get there and or pick up anything they may need for the trip. (again I'm open to other suggestions on meeting time if this is too early for you guys.)

From here we can make the drive hour to hour and a half drive to the mountains and should be there around 11 to 11:30. If we stick to the time schedule we should have plenty of time to check out the first part of the roads and check out one of the many restaurants surrounding the area for lunch. Then the rest of the afternoon we can enjoy the rest of the mountain roads and every once in a while pull off to the designated areas and take some pics/ check out the scenery.

Heres a look at what Skyline drive looks like just in case you might have missed it.

It's looking like I won't be able to make it. I still haven't got the vert back together. Have fun and post some pics.

Any progress on identifying the underlying problem?

Yes, this is on SUNDAY everyone. Please post again and add your name to this list if you are definately going:

1. 93rx74lyfe (Justin)

2. RXtacy (Mike)

3. ArmitageGVR4 (Matt)

4. mrhetrick (Mike)

5. He's on Toroids (Rocky)

6.ChangJun85 (Jun?)

7.

Also, while there are some in the group that have a tendancy toward "spirited driving" there are also some that are more looking to just cruise and enjoy. Do not abandon the trip because you think you won't keep up. There will be a couple of stops (probably at the scenic vistas) where we will re-group if needed. All 7 lovers are welcome even if you don't have your seven along. (Although driving an Rx is perferred, we need some camera guys too )

Friend of mine wanted to tag along with us, even though he is driving a 2011 Mustang. I know, I know, but we are all enthusiasts right?

Couldn't have said it any better myself Rocky! Just to put everyones minds at ease this is not a "race" just a scenic cruise with occasional sprint here and there There will of course be plenty of opportunities to stop and check out the great scenery and take some nice group shots! If for what ever reason you cannot arrive in an RX-7 your more than welcome to come in what ever you can. After all this is a group thing for all car enthusiasts but at the end of the day we all know our heart rotates

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow morning!

For anyone looking for a spirited drive skyline drive would be a great road for it if the park police and other traffic were not there but there are a lot of out of towners currently on the drive and the speedlimit is 35 mph. the drive to Front royal on 66W is only a hour from Fairfax and Mannassas is prob 40 min or so if you go to the Front royal exit ( #6 ) and then drive through town or you could drop off at the Linden exit ( #13) turn left at the bottom of the ramp then right towards town on rt55. in the end it is about the same amount of time.

BTW... the cost to get on The skyline drive is $15 and it is good for a week unless you have a season pass already.

Still not sure what is causing the problems, but during the process of switching the exhaust over to the racing beat true dual I snapped one of the studs at the header. I'm going to try to work on it again tomorrow.
