NOVA Emissions....again....

I need some advice/help...I live in crappy fairfax...

If anyone has had success recently with paying someone off lemme know ASAP!

On the other hand:

I was reading up on some emissions info on the forum (trying to find a place because it is that time once AGAIN) and the shop that I have been using the past few years has lost it's license to do emissions. So....I was thinking that this year I would try and change my cars registration to Va Beach where my sister lives. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I would need to take to the DMV to do this. Would I need to go to a DMV at Va Beach to register it down there?! Is it going to be iffy changing the registration a month before the emissions here is due? What other paper work is involved with changing the registraion? I know i'm going to be doing my taxes this week too. Any info you all can give me would be great! Thanks.

You just need to register the car down there. The downside is that I believe you need to change your permanent adress to the adress where the car is registered.

Thats how it worked for me when I was in college. I am about to change my permanent adress to a PO Box and have all the mail forwarded to me at my real adress.

Brent,

Mine just failed emissions about a month ago, and instead of wasting the $680 for a two-year waiver, I registered it in Culpeper County where they have no emissions. It is to be "garaged" at my parent’s house. You can change the address at which the car is "garaged" and still keep your permanent address, but you will have to purchase a county sticker from VA Beach.

Please be cognizant of where the car is actually supposed to be "garaged"! In my case I go overseas quite a lot, and while I am gone my parents will have possession of the car, thus requiring it to be "garaged" in Culpeper County.

Hope this makes sense.

Mike,

Did you have to go to culpeper county to register the car there or did you just go to your local dmv and tell them that the car is going to be garaged there in culpeper? I would like to avoid driving the 7 all the way down to the beach if i can. But you gotta do what you gotta do, right?

Brent,

You can go to your local DMV for the registration, but you may have to go all the way down to VA Beach in order to get the decal. Unless they have the decal application online, which would save you the trip. You could also have your sister either mail you the application or fill it out for you and she can drop it off, and then mail you the sticker. Remember to just be aware of what could happen if you get caught.
