Well. I call it that. Oct 30th around 12am I just got out of work and started on my drive home. I got a half mile or less down the road when I cop pulls me over. He was a nice cop thank god, he tells me my headlight is out. I told him I knew that and I was waiting for my check this week to replace it. I knew i wasn't speeding because i just took a left turn onto a road and I must have only been going 15mph. He didn't pull me over for my exhaust either, although he did mention that it was loud.

Anyways. after pulling me over and waiting for him to come back to me with my license and reg. He then comes out of his car and I'm thinking, OK I can go on my way home now.

Not! He tells me to turn the engine off and to step out of the car. biggggg " ? " in my head. WTF is going on? So he says my license has been suspended that day. I was like, WHAT! After he told me I had an unpaid fine, trying to figure out what it was, HE grabbed his handcoffs and arrested me for driving with a suspended license.

I never knew my license was suspended. So he told me I couldn't drive my car at all and it has to be towed. When he said that my heart just stopped. I felt like I just disowned my baby. I kept telling her that no tow hooks would touch her, ever! I looked at my car and stared at my car for awhile wondering what is going to happen next.

After getting into the back of the cop car and brought to the station and after finger printing me , taking pictures and all. There was a speeding ticket that I totally forgot about. I got it months ago and never paid it. Silly me. Doesn't sound horrible just yet.

I moved to a new house a couple months ago and never changed the address on my license at the DMV. So now because I didn't do that. The letter that they sent out (supposedly) was sent to my old address and not to my current address. So,

Here is where the money gets taken from me:
I have to pay a fine for my license because i never changed the address.
I have to pay a $35 fee for the bail commissioner
What ever fees I get for a class A mistermeaner from the court
$90 to get my car out of yard and back to me.
$50+ to get my license and reg reinstated..
A fine for the ticket.

I don't know what other fees there are going to be. But I don't have my car . I hope i get it tomorrow after driving 1 hour to the concord DMV to get my license and reg reinstated and then drive to the Wilton Police station to get my plates and then to the towing place that took my car.

I'm furious.
I want to see if I can tell them that I have been extremely busy getting the house fixed up and haven't had time to get my license changed and to see if they can drop some of the charges or fines. Either that or i will just start shooting people. One or the other will happen.

Anyone have any ideas?

BTW, anyone own a gold rx7 that was sitting at the Mobil gas station in the Wilton center for repair? I thought it was my car with the hood up and I was going to freak out on the guys. After my girl turned around and drove into the Mobil parking lot, I found out that it wasn't my car. But looked exactly like it. GRRR They were very very very lucky.

 

driving on a suspended license will cost you about $140. It's happened to me a couple times. Good luck with everything. Let us know how it turns out.

 

Pretty cheap compared to more metropolitan areas. That same setup here in md would be well into 4-500 in fines/courtfees/impound/towing.

 

I second that kid. NYC they will rape your *** man. Every day its in the lot its like over $100. ON top of all that.

get a lawyer and go to court. i got the same thing except the ticket i got wasnt for a headlight it was for 150 in a 50 on my bike and driving on suspended just like you i didnt know mine was suspended. if they will drop those charges you should be able to get yours dropped

 

I hate to say it but you are responsible for everything that happened.
It is your responsibility to remember things (like speeding tickets) and it is
also your responsibility to notify the government folks when you move (so they know where to send notifications and such).
You are just dealing with the consequences of your decisions, the reaction of the police officer seems a bit extreme in my view though. I don't think you needed to be arrested but you certainly don't have a leg to stand on in court if you wanna fight any of this.

 

Well I got my license and reg back and my car too. $250 for reg and license and 130 for the car.

I called the owner of my previous address and they said they havnt recieved anything for anyone but them selves.

I dont feel im guilty at all for the suspension, I do feel im guilty for the ticket so i dont mind paying for the ticket and the late fee. Everything else I dont agree with so I want to get a lawyer or atleast talk to one about this. I dont feel this should go on my record since I had no idea about the suspension. If I knew about it. that would be a diff story.

 

I just speak from experience, I have done the exact same stuff you have.

 

I did send in the change of address card in the mail but they never got it i guess.

 

dont feel bad man i had the same thing expect for missing court for a date that was going to be there... the judge said hes sanding it to a diff court and then i come home... in front of my house 3 cops waiting, my car gets towed, i get arrested, spent good friday, saturday, easter and monday in jail until i got my bail and i got a 5000 bail i was like wtf but yea its wrong... well good luck i had one of those tickets paid 150 for fines 300 for lawyer and no suspension just surcharges 250 for 3 years

 

I spoke to a lawyer today and told him the story and exactly what happend and how the cops handled the situation and he said what they did was bulshit and it should have not happend that way. He also said it shoudl not have been a class A mistermeaner and should have been a violation or a class B. HE said I should plead not guilty and get a public defender since I dont have 1500 bucks to give to the lawyer I called. Im feeling a little more positive now since Im not the only one that thinks its all bulshit.
