By the way, looks like I have to pay a visit to the friendly neighborhood detention center in Rockville tonight to turn myself in... Bench warrants are always such fun...

Anyone wanna come with?

price - something that i'd not have to spend much to get. the corolla would get me a trade worth about $5-6k, depending on where i go. i need a 4-banger daily driver type thingo with little-to-no warranty, but in decent shape. preferably Japanese...if i got my hands on another Z24 i'd probably kill myself with all the crap i'd do to it.

also - something with a decent aftermarket.
**COUGH** civic **COUGH**

i actually think thats prob the best one to look at for cheap, somewhat reliable and good aftermarket. definitely no hyundai or mitsu. plus its got V-TEC, YO!

thats the hard part....cheap reliable cars dont usually have that much of an aftermarket cuz most people go for cars with more power for a base to start from. i even looked up the corolla XRS...damn thing costs as much if not more than a Celica GT

yer other option is to go back to a sports car like N/A RX-7 or N/A MKIII supra or something around their era/league and just tune it for better fuel economy. jason was getting 30ish MPG before he went aftermarket ECU and my car i was getting 25ish MPG bone stock (before all the lightening im gonna do to it ie. pop Dougs FD rims on to shave off 100+ lbs right there.

no. i wont' own a Honda...that goes against my very soul. the XRS corolla is still a turd...it LOOKS like a turd, too. ugh...i won't own a new toyota at this point. they're all slow and narsty.

i'm also leaning toward something that'll be ok on the wallet with insurance. i have one at-fault accident on my record, which insurance companies DON'T like to see.

right now, i'm looking at a 99 Impreeza 2.5RS, per a friend's suggestion. any opinions?

thats the one with the square pistons...right?

i have a thing against the looks of subaru so im biased. but specs wise...seems pretty decent. dont know anything about their aftermarket though. might be able to grab some stuff from the WRX end of the aftermarket though since they are pretty much the same car.

Well, as everyone knows, I recently moved... I misplaced the notification for court date in all that, and since the last time I got worked up and went in on the wrong day, I forgot about it and just guessed it was on the 5th...

I found that paper yesterday night, and lo and behold it was on May 2nd.... So yeahhhh, i'm just gonna avoid any hassle I may have if I get pulled over or checked and just turn myself in after work... Survey says so far that i've got a 60/40 chance i'm not gonna spend the night....

Anyone got an idea where Seven Locks Rd. is?

yeah, square pistons all the way

see...i kindof like the looks of the older subarus. newer imprezas make me want to puke, but the older ones have a look that i like.

i was told to look at 99 rather than 98 - apparently the SOHC in the 99 is a good choice, compared to the problematic DOHC in the 98.

i dunno...i'm still looking around, but i definitely need to rid myself of the turd.

goto the IHOP in rockville.

instead of turning on that road where we exit to the left and going to 355/Rockville pike....go right (Wooton Parkway) and drive until the traffic light after the bridge that goes over I-270. turn right and drive down that road. thats the detention center and police station.

might wanna find out WHAT the problem was. might just be the tuning of the cams...which can be replaced with better ones. but DOHC has better power gains in tuning than SOHC

hmm...you have a good point.

it's funny...people are telling me that if i go with that option, to just do an STi swap in the future - so it really doesn't matter WHAT engine i choose, eh? heh.

ooOOoooo....some CLARIFIED info

that V-10 500 HP supra....looks like thats not the specs

"Toyota insiders say the reincarnated Supra should reach the market in 2006 as a 2007 model. The rear-wheel drive coupe, being targeted at the Nissan 350Z, will be powered by a twin-cam 3.5-liter V-6 ~300HP n/a and priced from well under $30,000. "

that will be the cheapest supra since about '92

MKIV supras (most famous one being that orange abomination from F&F) were 32-45k. and they STILL go for at LEAST 150-20k and peak up to 33k for a still fully stock one (dealer sells for original price which is insane.....40k for a car with over 100,000 miles on it cuz someone WILL pay that much for a stock MK4)

SCORE - got an answer.

apparently the headgaskets were problematic on the DOHC...and when the gaskets went, the heads warped easily. i won't necessarily avoid the 98s, but i'll definitely be asking when they replaced the gasket, and if it was done before it blew.
