MA exhaust laws

I just got pulled over by a Hamilton, MA cop going about 22 mph in a 30 because my exhaust is "illegal" and "too loud." (unit in question is an Apex'i N1 single) He said that legislation passed in July stating that all aftermarket exhaust systems were illegal. Apparently I will be ticked on my next warning, and towed on the third. What! I looked it up online and it seems that MA legislators met on September 13 (NOT July) to decide on the law, but I couldn't find what the verdict was. He didn't even spell "exhaust" correctly on the ticket...

What I did find of the law was that it will be at an officer's discretion what is too loud and what is not. So a fireman driving an F-150 with Flowmasters would probably get ignored while my RX-7 will get impounded as soon as I fire it up.

Can/should we fight this? Is everyone going back to stock exhausts or what?

That's the thing with aftermarket.they are like cop magnets!!!do you have emissions in your state..runnin without a cat?..if he let you off with a warning thank your lucky stars ..he could of pulled ya for the illegal exhaust system...at least that's what would happen around my area E_capital ontario!!some of the Johnny Laws around here are quick on the book!Makes me think twice about revamping my exhaust ...his car sounds so quiet sittin in the impound!later!!

Welcome to the Communist State Of Massachusetts.

I haven't heard of this law, partly because there was no need to look it up with my stock exhaust. If this is the case, there's going to be alot of fartcan Hondas being pulled over. I was seriously thinking of going with Racing Beat mufflers, keeping the rest stock. MASS is TOUGH on emissions, and pretty much everything else - they even check to see if your gas cap is leaking fumes. I had a catless Seven about 7-8 years ago that didn't pass, so I had to have some work done to it.

What bothers me to no end is how loud the HARLEYS are.
