Ian, I am a "code monkey" like Yoshi said, but I have worked closer to the operating system than Yoshi. Whatever you do, stay in school, finish and get the damned degree. I know so many good people who got 3 years in and quit, got the job that sounded good at the time, then find out 10-15 years later that you have hit a celing jsut because you didn't finish school. I kicked myself in the but and finished at the time and it has made things better at this point. Very few people ever go back and finish.

and im definently planning on staying in school calvin haha. im just trying to find a different job. i was planning on being a mechanic, but i like driving cars alot more than i like working on them haha.

 

I went through the mechanic thought a little bit at one time when I was nearing high school graduation. But I realized that I enjoyed working on my cars, and not other people's cars. I hated deadlines because I wanted to do repairs right. When I found an unexpected problem, I put everything down and got all the parts to do it right, even if it took me several weeks to find the parts. You don't get these luxuries as a professional mechanic, to whom time is money, and there is just no other way to look at it.

I also wanted a job that was differnent than what I was doing, that didn't leave me too tired to go out to the garage. I am glad I had the luxury of doing that. I paid for school, but my parents let me live at their house until I was out of school and on my feet. That was a huge gift for which I am thankful until today. Living at home like that was not as common back then as it is today, but without it, I would be in a different place today.

Trust me, sometime in your third year of school, it gets very tough to stay in school. You feel like you have learned everything useful and you can get out and do a real job that earns well. Graduation seems like it is so far away, and all of the senior classes are these theoretical classes that will not add anything useful. You will also get some job offers and opportunities that are awfully tempting at the time. Chances are you will have friends that got jobs straight out of high school, that just got big raises, and are now making what sounds like decent money, that sounds better than typical starting salaries after you graduate.

It takes real efort to stay in school and get to the completion through that year. It will pay off if you do it. Trust me on this.

 

i second calvin on that one, get your degree first and go from there. It will do nothing but help you. It will never be a bad thing, and if you dont finish it, you will regret when you get older. Because 10 or 15 years from now you might have to make a choice you didn't want to do. But whatever you decide to do good luck!

Kenny, if i was there i do it for ya, i just replace all the brakes in a 2005 mercedes c40 station wagon, easy, get a couple of milwakees best and change the brakes, Rich or Jerry can help ?

 

joint the ARMY.........with a degree, i did that and 14 years pass by and still getting experience, plenty of jobs when i get out in 6 more yrs

and im with you on the mechanic thing calvin. i hate working on other peoples cars because there is always the quick cheap way to do something and thats what my dad does and i would rather know the job waws done right instead of half assed.

i also have a friend who is working at a ford dealership who went to UTI. he said he has alot of certifications now, but hates working at the dealership and is looking for another job.

any mechanic job i would want would have to be rotary/rx-7 related haha.

Random question...

Does anybody know of a good paint shop in the area?? My paint is faded as ****, and I want to get it resprayed before I move overseas.. Anybody have a personal experience (positive and/or negative) they would like to share?? It would be much appreciated.

One I usually recommend.... Call Dale at Macco on Pembroke Ave on the peninsula. He will work with you, and give you a good job for what you pay.

 

I'll def have to check in on that Calvin. Though I must admit I am not too familiar with Pembroke Ave. I'll be asking around.
