Arrow The fight for a Dragstrip on LI

As some of you may know there is alot of upset motorsports enthusiests on long island due to the backing out of local politicians who once promised to support the building of the strip. Bumper stickers stating "No dragstrip = No Levy"are being seen on alot of sports cars in both suffolk and nassau counties.

I do not know too much about this but from what Ive heard I want to be apart of it and I think others here might too. So far they have held a Rally at Captree state park that gained alot of media attention from the local news. I believe this is a good cause not only for racers but for the state of New York. Less street racing and more money being spent here rather than in jersey.

From what I see on different discussion boards there are usually meet's in Captree park on sundays. I havent seen a mention of a definite date for a next protest but I think attending these meets can only help support the cause if not only to learn more about it.

if anyoen has any useful info on future plans for this movement please post it.

heres a clip I foudn of the last turnout: http://www.searchmyvideo.com/watch/2...karounds-no-d/

if its for motorsports enthusiasts.. imho it should include a road course as well
everyone had an opportunity to speak up for bridgehampton... not much success there..
and that track had a lot of history..

Well the fight isnt to decide what will be built it is to get the local government to allow it to be built. They have been denying proposals to build a track due to noise complaints of previous locations.

Didnt they have a track called Riverhead Raceway park. Someone told me that they closed it down. They should have a road course and a drag strip. The best of both worlds.

Riverhead Raceway is still an active small oval track http://www.riverheadraceway.com/

Sadly America's first purpose built drag strip the Weathampton Speedway is now a housing development and America first purpose built road course the Bridgehampton Raceway is being carved up for golf courses

LI unfortunately has become a lousy place to be into motorsports, VA on other hand rocks
