Fairfax County Cops' latest speed enforcement technique!
If you've heard of Virginia, it's probably because you or someone you know has been pulled over by the Fairfax County Police. Chances are, you or someone you know has gone to jail for speeding in VA. Needless to say, speed enforcement is ruthless in this State.
Well, for all you locals, we all know about the Crown Vics, unmarked Impalas new Mustangs, Stratuses, and Suburbans...even the occassional seized import... You've been hit by instant-on radar, laser, and lidar (none of which you know the difference between). And chances are, you've prob even noticed the huge, dark, menacing "Speed Limit Enforced By Aircraft" sign. But nothing...I mean NOTHING could have prepared me for what I saw the other day on 495 Northbound, in between the Little River Turnpike and Gallows Road Exits, right where they have such a sign...

Yea sorry, I just came across it now. Had me for a few min. And I swear, that stretch of highway looks EXACTLY like the spot I described on 495...
But yea, I'm officially the po-po's biatch now. I drive like a wuss, cuz every 3rd car or somethin is an undercover officer. It's crazy. Oh yea, and my insurance ain't too happy w/ me now (they're even considering my 12A 100hp '84 FB a "high performance vehicle" in my hands )

the 2.75 inch unguided rockets are just that - unguided. point and shoot.
the Hellfires are primarily an optical weapon. I believe it can be linked to IR data via the FLIR but its still a case of using the mointor to put cross hairs on target.
the 30mm cannon is again, a point and shoot weapon.
you CAN mount a Sidewinder on an Apache but it's not something the Army usually does. Most of the time, it is assumed that friendly troops would have air supremacy and as such, the choppers would not need to worry about air to air armaments.
on a side note, i do remember a case in vietnam of a sidewinder being used in an air to ground mode - it worked but definately isnt the intended purpose of the weapon.

****! I didn't know about those...
I know the Crown Vic's, both marked and plain wrapper. I know the Impalas and Camaros the same.
I've seen one unmarked newer Taurus. I know of an unmarked Expedition. They have fully marked GM 1500 Series trucks...
What else, just so I can be on the lookout.
Stuff I've heard of but as of is unconfirmed:
Eclipses. At various stages of rice... To catch street racers.
BMW 5 or 7 series... Not sure if it's marked or unmarked.
Minivan. (W...T...F...)
Any confirmations or additions? I know Prince William has a purple late 80's Camaro.

Not the newEST Stangs...but the ones right before that. $20 says they'll have the NEW stangs very very soon. The new nasty Dodge hemi funky car (forget what it's called) is slated for a police package.
I can't remember (or tell the diff.) between the boats.. either a Chrysler Seabring or a Dodge Stratus. Real big cars. Seen 'em pop ppl on 66 all the time. No one expects it.
I've personally been pulled over by a Suburban once, and had another one turn on it's lights and sirens for a sec (basically "whoop" me) after I passed him and got in front of him doin about 85 on 95 North lol (these two were in MD, but I see the Suburbans w/ lights both hidden and on the roof a LOT in McLean).
According to Neal, the BMW is a 3 series. And apparently there's a Integra out there somewhere too.
Bottom line is, if it's domestic, think twice. And yes, I've seen that Expidition.

the Apaches typically carry Stinger missiles for air to air engagements... two per wing.
a sidwinder was also used (albiet accidentally) in an air to ground mode in the first few weeks of OEF... i debriefed the pilot that did it.

i don't know where. the summons says huntington ave. and the guy was a moutn vernon cop. he didnt radar me. On the summons under the charge area it just say "Reckless Driving (General)"
The cop also wants my dad to call him and talk to him, I don't know what that means. I didnt knwo the people I was following, I just talked to them, then followed them on 495 to watch them race, then they got off, and I kept following because I thought they were going back to springfield.
The cop said he was going 55 behind me, But I'm pretty sure I was going 45 following the other people in a 30 zone. he said he was going 65 initially to catch up, but I still think he was going 55 catching up.
I don't know, my court date isnt until September 19th.

I used to run from my house in SC to my family home in PA often. Whenever I went through VA between Rocky Mount and DC it was a free-for-all. I'd be going eighty on I-95 and still get passed by many cars. And I would even see cops in the N/S crossovers just sitting and watching.
I guess after so many years of wild-wild-west style driving VA decided to get tight and went for 0 tollerance. I imagine they are also filling their coffers pretty easily these days.
I am glad to see you guys talking about it, because it is time for me to run home again soon, and I wouldn't even have been aware otherwise.

Damn Ian. That's rough. Really really rough. I'd def. have your dad speak to the officer, but you have to have a nice long chat, and MAKE SURE your dad believes you and is confident in you. You never know what your dad's influence can do (esp. given the nature of his job...who knows, that may cut you some slack). If your dad is apologetic for your actions, that's obviously not gonna help the situation at all.
So he didn't write down that you were speeding, or that he paced you? He just wrote down Reckless (generally) because??
Now before later, save up $500. James DeVita's your man. I'm sure he can get it pleaded down to a minor infraction. You HAVE to have this done, because other than reckless being a CRUCIAL ticket (huge fine, jailtime, and license suspension), due to your age, they're liable to pull your license until you're 18 or 21. They do that now. Here's his contact info. Tell him Ramy sent you. $500 flat fee takes care of it all, and you have from now until the court date to pay him (don't have to pay him now up-front).

Hey cafcwest and Nghtstlkr7, since you guys obviously know a lot about helicopters, I got a few questions for ya:
1) How many of those unguided rockets can a helicopter carry? Cuz in one of my all-time favorite movie scences, in Rambo II, toward the end, he's going back to the village to save the POWs. He hijacks a helicopter, and fires 22 some rockets. I'm curious how many it can actually carry Those things that fire the rockets (look like a gun revolver) look like the only have 6 slots each, and there are only two of them (one on each side)
2) In the same scene, it seems that he pushes the flight stick forward, and it also advances the machine gun (M-60?) onboard. Is that gun firing basically in whatever direction the helicopter's facing, or is there a way to control it from the pilot's seat (he was alone...can you fly and aim the gun at the same time?)

Here are pics of what I'm talkin about (sorry, I had to use my camera, because I don't know how to capture video as a pic on the computer...):
The helicopter and rocket launchers:
Here you can see it has 6 spots for rockets each:
In action
The machine gun I'm talking about:
And a money shot of it in action from the front (actually looks like it's firing TWO shots at once! )

I'm gonna wait until my dad talks to the officer to see what happens, from there I'll consider calling DeVita, $500 is alot of money for me. The cop said the most I'd get would be a 6 month license suspension if they charged me, since i wasn't doing anything crazy.
I'll update when I get more info.

When a cop says "the most you'll get is," he's FULL OF IT. Cops will lie to you in your face, saying it's no big deal. Come the trial, he's got his court face on, and will play the game HARD. Plus, remember the punishment isn't made by him. It's recommended by the Prosecutor, and decided upon by the Judge. So if you happen to get a judge that didn't have his morning coffee, you may not be coming home the same day...
Having said that, a suspended license is NOT a matter to be taken lightly. It'll remain on your record FOREVER. Any application asks "have you ever had your license suspended or revoked? And if so, why?" including insurance. Insurance will have a FIELD DAY w/ you for the next decade (literally), because of that one fateful night. AND, as if that wasn't enough, the judge may or may not grant you a restricted license. If he doesn't, and you're caught driving on a suspended license, you're getting an even longer suspension (or possibly a revocation at your age, until you're 21), and probably jail time too. And, throughout that period, it is IMPOSSIBLE (illegal) to get a restricted license. So you'd NEVER EVER be able to drive for quite some time. Not going to school, not w/ your parents, nada.
Lastly, I know $500 sounds like a lot, but that is by far the best rate you'll find anywhere in the area. Most guys I've talked to put up a lot more hype, charge a HELL of a lot more ($900 and and up), and have far less results to show for it. This is when you hit your dad up for the $500. Tell him that $500 will save him THOUSANDS on car insurance. It really will, cuz your comprehensive coverage can jump to almost $2000 every 6 months after your license is suspended.

as far as the gun... that looked like (in the close-up shot) a "mini" gun... gatling gun that rains lead on helpless victims... i dont know the rate of fire off the top of my head, but its alot, something like 2000 rounds per minute i think. the only way that he could control the direction of fire is if he points the nose of the helo and pulls the trigger. to my knowlegde there was never an ability to independantly aim and shoot a gun from the cockpit of a Huey (the UH-1). the only two helos that we have that can do that are the Apache and the Cobra... and the weapons are controlled by the gunner.
hope that answers em for ya

Yep...that answers my questions and then some The copters are badass man. You sure can do a lot of damage w/ one... crazy
Oh and THAT'S why that gun looks familiar. That "minigun" looks a LOT like (if not the same) as the one used in Terminator 2... and when he stepped up to the window to open fire, one of the cops (in a helicopter lol..coincidence) yells "he's got a damn minigun!"

my uncle was in the navy and he said one day an apache landed on their helipad for whatever buisness it had to attend to and he was looking at it and next thing you know the guns looked over and pointed at him and at that same moment im assuming he had a funny face on because the gunner started laughing as he looked at my uncle.... apparently the multibarrel guns are linked into a system based off the direction and pitch of the gunners helmet direction... anyone confirm this?
