EVG Performance Manchester

I was in the neighborhood yesterday, and decided to drop in and check these guys out. They do not claim to be rotary specialists, but they are knowledgable. Had a nice FD they were wrapping up, and a couple other 7s in the lot. They have access to a local dyno and a rotary tuner they work with. Great people in general, will give you their time, and are passionate about performance.

FDbyadoom 01-26-24 03:26 PM

Hey! Thats my white FD at their shop! They are doing a few things to it and are super nice guys!

Gone_in_60k 01-26-24 03:48 PM

Love the Mazdaspeed stuff! You are a bit further along than me, and I needed the motivation, so thanks!

FDbyadoom 01-26-24 03:55 PM

Thanks! Everything except the spoiler came with the car. Apparently the previous owner had a thing for the OEM+ brand. They had a white FC there the other day that they showed on their Instagram story. Was that yours?

Here is my most recent pic from my camera roll. Haha I am resto-modding a friends old 7 from high school.
So, no, not me.lol

FDbyadoom 01-29-24 10:38 AM

Dorito flavored corn flakes. Huh. Who knew!

SleepeR1st 02-01-24 06:56 AM

I will have to stop in one day with my 8. Do these guys do dyno tuning on rotaries or do you know anyone in the area that does?

Gone_in_60k 02-01-24 07:06 AM

From what they told me, they have a remote tuner they use, and they have access to Kinetic’s dyno.

FDbyadoom 02-01-24 07:21 AM

This is exactly what I was going to say. Its what they are going to be doing to my RX7 in the coming weeks. They are in the process of wiring up the Haltech elite 1500 and setting up methanol control through it. Im gonna be taking the day off from work when they go to tune it so I can be there and watch it go either really well, or really bad. Should be quite the event either way. Kinetics shop is also extremely nice even though they basically only work on Subaru's there. Ive had another car dynoed their twice and the whole crew was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They also have one of, if not the only AWD Dyno that I know of in New Hampshire.

Gone_in_60k 02-01-24 07:25 AM

Small world, but I was the welder/fabricator of that dyno, back when I worked for Land and Sea. I worked there with the original owner of Trick Engineering, which became Kinetic.

FDbyadoom 02-01-24 07:27 AM

Damn man, small world indeed! Any idea why they went with a mustang dyno over something like a Dynojet at the time? I dont like how low they read sometimes.

Gone_in_60k 02-01-24 07:30 AM

Well, possibly a new dyno then. It was a dynomite dyno. I hate to admit how long we are going back.

FDbyadoom 02-01-24 07:40 AM

Just checked a Dyno Sheet from when I had my Kia stinger Dynoed there, You are correct, it is a Dynomite Dyno still. Not sure why I thought it was a mustang dyno. Ended up making 450awhp that day according to the chart, but they told me that its probably a bit higher cuz the dyno can read up to 8% low sometimes. Makes sense as I was running low 11s in a 2 ton car. What a great car that was. I regret selling it.

Gone_in_60k 02-01-24 07:48 AM

Their claim was always accuracy and no 15% correction factor like some competitors.

FDbyadoom 02-01-24 07:53 AM

Huh, Not sure then. Either way I am excited for the RX7 to go there though!

Gone_in_60k 02-01-24 07:55 AM

Oh, it very well could be 8% off. Their has to be tolerances in production, even if all their math was correct. They would test or calibrate the dynos going out the door with the owners Rav4.

FDbyadoom 02-01-24 07:57 AM

That had to be a site to see for anyone pulling up at the time, I cant imagine most people would expect to see a Rav4 on a dyno lol

SleepeR1st 02-01-24 09:32 AM

Great information, thanks guys! I spoke to Rich over the phone and he was very nice, I will be stopping by later today around 4pm to check it out. Looking to have helper springs installed on my sakebomb ohlins FP, a corner balance, touch up on my track alignment and possible tuning in the future.

FDbyadoom 02-01-24 09:33 AM

Cant just drop that on us without a picture of your car!

SleepeR1st 02-01-24 10:03 AM

Lol, here you go, enjoy! I mainly only use it for autocross and trackdays, if you are interested I can get you connected with our autocross group in Ayer Mass, one of the best venues in the country.

Where in NH are you? I am over in Candia.

FDbyadoom 02-01-24 10:10 AM

Your car is seriously clean my dude! Looks awesome! I am in the Merrimack/Nashua area and will def be doing autocross/trackdays at some point with the car, but will probably take the first summer to get the car broken in and make small adjustments to the tune here and there first. We want it to be Daily drivable as well as trackable so the plan is to have a bunch of different maps for it, selectable with a dial.

SleepeR1st 02-01-24 10:19 AM

Thanks, it is the cleanest rx8 I have seen in person yet. I bought it about two years ago with 22,500 miles, and it has about 28,000 miles now. You have to share your FD now. :)
I have only actually seen a couple in person, have yet to drive one or even sit in one sadly. You are welcome to message me and reach out if you want to come and ride along for a day of autox, always fun to get people hooked on it.

FDbyadoom 02-01-24 10:43 AM

Id love to take you up on that, Im sure it would be a blast! If youre planning to stop by their shop around 4 today then you will 100% see my car there, as its been there for the last like month and a half waiting on a harness to come in from haltech. thankfully that finally arrived on friday. For now the only decent pictures I have of it are from their instagram because it came off the truck and basically went straight to them.

No Idea who's FC that is.

Took This photo 4 hours after It came off the delivery truck. Took the opportunity to wash her and my daily by hand in near freezing temps. Note - This photo is not at EVG, This photo is a shop owned by someone I know personally.

SleepeR1st 02-01-24 11:55 AM

Looks well setup from what I can see. Eventually I would love to own a stock Spirit R Type-A in that beautiful Blue Mica, my literal dream car. I would probably need to be a millionaire to justify the cost of that one

FDbyadoom 02-01-24 03:50 PM

Did you go see it yet? How was it?

SleepeR1st 02-02-24 07:04 AM

I did stop by yesterday, they have quite the repertoire of projects they are working on, with one from a highly public individual I won't name. Rich is very confident he can get you exactly what you need, and he had some good thoughts on your car. I didn't see the inside but your car looks good, and the engine bay is tidy with all the right parts. If I owned it I would make sure the cooling system is my top priority. Only thing I noticed, which maybe there was some parts currently missing due to the modifications, was having proper airflow ducting for the radiator and intercooler setup. Ideally there should be no gaps around the radiator, so all air that enters the front dam should be moving through the intercooler/radiator stack. This is a major pain point with the RX8 as lots of owners over the years have decided to ditch the undertray or ditch the cover between the front hood latch support and radiator gap, and have run into cooling issues because of removing those parts. I only briefly looked at the car though, and maybe the FD is different than the RX8, but all rotaries should have cooling as a top priority, just some food for thought. :)

FDbyadoom 02-02-24 07:30 AM

Thank you! Glad you liked it! Improving the cooling is the next step after we get it on the road. I know the radiator needs to be moved and proper adjustment brackets need to be made as well. I also would not be surprised if there where a few things missing as I believed the ECU and Methanol where getting wired up over the course of this week, so that very well could be why. I also have a 3D scanner and design things on the side, so once the car gets back in my hands, I plan to design ducts to keep all the air going into side holes on the front bumper holes to maximize the cooling of them, then a duct that takes the air from the back of the cooler and routes it to cool the brakes.

SleepeR1st 02-02-24 12:17 PM

Good stuff! There is another member on here and the 8 club I am friends with lives down your way, he is currently doing a REW swap in his rx8. We have a solid little group of rotary engine fans now in southern new hampshire.

FDbyadoom 02-02-24 12:31 PM

Yes sir! Sounds like a get together would be pretty fun! Once the spring comes of course.

FDbyadoom 02-14-24 09:33 AM

Well they have my new ECU installed and on the base map. She sounds so much healthier than when she came off the truck! Next step is tuning!

SleepeR1st 03-20-24 09:05 AM

Any updates on the FD? The weather has been great lately, feels like boost weather!

FDbyadoom 03-20-24 09:25 AM

Yes! We decided to turn the RX7 into a Mini Truck! Jk jk, the rear hatch was just removed so it could be used for paint matching the spoiler while the car can continue to be worked on. Its on the final stages to be ready for this season, decided to replace the O2 sensor for the Haltech one, as well as some last minute Fuel rail and injector upgrades. The goal is to be tuned and ready to go by the first week of april.

SleepeR1st 03-20-24 11:43 AM

Good stuff :icon_tup:

FDbyadoom 03-20-24 02:57 PM

Oh, Another note, The red FD that has been at EVG for a while was abandoned by the customer and now belongs to EVG, so they can work on that car and plan to bring it to OEM+ condition and really learn the platform.

SleepeR1st 03-22-24 07:22 AM

Interesting. I am completely open to anyone abandoning their FD's with me, I do not mind at all.

FDbyadoom 03-22-24 08:09 AM

Right? Turns out That the FD that was left with them also had some fueling upgrades done to it by them that was paid for before the previous owner abandoned it, and they are going to swap them onto my car to save me some money, as well as it will help achieve the power goals that I want. They in turn are going to use the ones on my car for the shop car as the owner of the shop only wants between 300-350whp. Obviously there are more details to it than that but at the end of the day, Free upgrades!

SleepeR1st 04-24-24 06:39 AM

Any updates? I have picked up another car...

FDbyadoom 04-24-24 07:51 AM

What did you pickup??

Also, The car is all buttoned up and ready to be tuned now, ended up getting some New fuel injectors as well. The only thing we are waiting on is the tuners schedule! I also got the estimate for the bill and it is not bad for everything I've had done to the car, but its still a lot of money! Thankfully I had them do everything I could think of (and that I was recommended to do by various other people) to make the car as reliable as possible, so future issues should be minimal!

While it is a lot of money, I will say that Rich and the shops overall quality of work, Attitude, and communication is 10/10, as well as the transparency with everything going on has been one of, if not the best shop experience I have ever received. From day 1, my car has never sat outside overnight, even if they are waiting on parts, they have always brought my car inside for storage, every single night, they have made sure it stayed out of the snow, and will be giving it a deep cleaning and polish when they are all done.

SleepeR1st 04-25-24 06:24 AM

Nice, that's all good to hear. He seemed really nice when I went there. Are you going with that tuner who just got back to the northeast, Brian from Rogue Rotaries? I would try and get in with him if I were you. I ended up figuring out the tune for my car with my buddy Jake based upon how other members have tuned their 8's, have yet to get it dyno'd though.

As far as the new car, I ended buying an LFX swapped 8 from Mississippi, just received it a little over two weeks ago. It should be on the road in a week or two. It should be a monster for track and autox, has quite a bit of power with a nice linear power band.

Jeez! That thing is gonna be a monster! Congrats my man!

I also just got word that the date is set for may 1st for it to be tuned, the tuner is Ryan Heinrich of RGHTBrainDesign. Ive heard good things about him!

Thats the plan at some point in the near future!

Gone_in_60k 05-03-24 07:14 AM

great motivation as I head out to work on the 7! Sounds great. What turbo are you running?

FDbyadoom 05-03-24 08:15 AM

I believe the turbo is a Rolls-Royce AE 3007 Based on the noise it makes!
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...8850cad80a.png

I'm joking of course, but it does really sound like a Jet engine in boost. The turbo is actually a Borg Warner S363sxe.

Gone_in_60k 05-03-24 08:30 AM

Haha. But I thought I remembered you having a BW when I came by to check your car and the shop out, but was unsure of the model. I went with the BW 8374 IWG. I am really motivated by you. Can’t wait to see how these cars compare and hear them cruising!!

FDbyadoom 05-03-24 09:51 AM

How long till she is on the road??

This time next year if all goes well. Body and interior work right now. Motor is rebuilt ready to go in. I have new carpet, seat skins, cage. Tein springs, tokico struts, super pro bushings.…Haltech and wiring, Whole radium fuel system with surge tank to install. You know, the regular stuff

FDbyadoom 05-03-24 10:02 AM

sounds like she will be a blast! If that Radium fuel system ever goes missing, I didn't do it I swear! (I 100% did, check the car first)

That was one of the very few things i did not have EVG do while they have it this spring, more than likely a next winter project!

Well you are out enjoying the car this season, and as always, the next vision in your head. I am working on drawing that line now, so I can be out next spring/summer.
