Door Locks

Does anybody know what the door locks look like after taking the covers off? my driver's door lock is broken and i would like to get more detail than what is available in the shop manual. i read somewhere that if i take the inside cover off i'll end up losing a bunch of springs. as you can tell i know very little about door locks in general. anything you guys can tell me would be a great improvement over what i don't know.
the problem? well.....the key doesn't go all the way in and the lock seems like it spins inside the socket without engaging any mechanism. almost seems like a spring is broken and something is obstructing the key from going all the way in the keyhole.

Usually the little lock cover that covers the actual keywhole breaks off and falls down inside the lock cylinder. Otherwise, you should just take the door handle to a locksmith, it's usually pretty cheap to have them fix it.
