Hey guys! I think I've introduced myself before but my name's Sebastian and I've had an FD for the past year and a half and have been building it really hard with the help of my friend. So far what we've done is had it Semi-peripheral ports and also a street port, Borg-warner EFR 9180, Custom fuel set up from CJ motorsports, Adaptronic ECU, custom FMIC and a lot of other goodies. I'm waiting on a few of these items to arrive like my EFR 9180 since it was the last one they had available. I'm excited to finish this car and put it on the dyno. Just wanted to update the local rx7 guys around here, looking forward to meeting you guys as well!

Guys - spring is coming, right? Who wants to auto-x with me on April 12?? I'm either bringing the RX3 or the RX8.. don't know which yet but it'd be nice to see some more rotaries roll up. We usually get a lot of BMWs and Subarus....

This is the event: https://www.nasaproracing.com/events/2063 Quite a few folks from NOVA apparently are going...

That's really far away for most of us, haha.

If you want to come up to DC, I run pretty much every WDCR SCCA autocross event.

Hey Sebastian, Great to hear the car is coming along. That is quite the setup you are putting together. What are your intentions for the car once it's built? Shows/track/strip/garage/daily?

I've been tempted before to head down for when you guys sometimes hold a ChillyX in January time frame. But it's a tough call in the spring to make the drive when there are so many events going on up here near DC. I might be tempted to head down just to see a new venue and my usual club doesn't have an event that weekend, but it is way too far out for me to be making decisions about that. How far ahead of time do your events usually fill up? I'd probably not be able to commit till the week before or something.

Also, it is soon time to start thinking about the Spring Cruise. If anyone has any ideas on location/course let me know. We will need to wait till things warm up and all the sand/salt is washed off the roads, but we can start the conversation now.

Maybe I'll have my GTUs or the FD running for the spring cruise.

If the vert is still around I'll take it but I'm hoping it's sold by then so I can move on to the other cars.

I've been saying I'm going to fix my GTUs since 2012!

Thank you man, it's going to be a monster when it's done. My intentions are for track, shows, and strip once in a while. It should be the first Semi peripheral port & street port running an EFR 9180 ever. My builder is trying to do some crazy stuff with me. Check him out he builds beautiful rotaries. He's about to be building his own 4 rotor monster. His shop is called Unique Precision Rotary. It's located in Baltimore maryland now, was once in Mt.Airy.

I get the distance, trust me. I've traveled all over the east coast for different events, but that's me.

We hold events for the "Mid Atlantic" area, so this one happens to be at NCCAR (closer to VIR) but we will continue to have more events all over the MD/WV/VA/NC area. NCCAR is the farthest south we'll go. IF you haven't been to NCCAR, it is a great venue for auto-x or a circuit-x and you won't have to loop through gates multiple times to get a 30-40secon run

Honestly though, there aren't very many good venues in the DC/NOVA area. With NASA Mid-Atlantic Autocross, we like big/fast courses, so it is difficult finding good places... some new things are brewing for the later half of this year though so I hope you all can make it out. There are so many subarus, bmws and hondas at events these days... very few rotaries!! We need a good showing...

The ChillyX is honestly one of our best events every year.. we've lucked out several years in a row and had sunny 40+ degree days which are far from unbearable!

Typically we always hold a few spots for day of registrations. It all depends on which venue we're running at... for example ChillyX this year booked up solid almost three weeks from the event.. we couldn't even hold day of registrations or else we'd have to limit the # of runs way too much...

We like to see between 60-90 cars at most venues as that usually still gaurantees everybody plenty of runs..

If you decide to come to NCCAR, let me know - there are actually more people already registered from the MD/NOVA area than from areas south... even have two folks coming from Florida!

Be sure to get all quoted prices and deadlines documented, and don't be afraid to pull the plug if things aren't delivered when promised. Big money builds can get out of whack and take forever/cost more if you don't keep things in check and check in.

Also, Summit Point Kart closed up at Summit Point and is planning to move. I'm curious if they are going to pull all the barriers and open the skid pad back up to AutoX or if they're going to keep the kart track for league events.

Where else do you run? Sounds like you guys run a decent show...

I usually run at FedEx Field which is no slouch... the pavement isn't the best, but it's big. courses are usually ~70 seconds.

They lost a battle with the state department (who the skid pad was originally built for) so I doubt any other events will be run there at all...

word on the street is they're trying to build a kart track near manasas.

Interesting!

Where I was reading it said the new location would be around Nokesville/Brentsville SE of Manassas.
If they were going indoors I think the K-mart that just closed in Dale City would be a great venue. It's literally right off the highway.

Yeah man i'm getting everything all quoted for and all receipts etc. This build has been worth it especially waiting for all the stuff to come in. Speaking of which i'm looking for new wheels and coilovers for my FD build right now if anyone has some 18's and a good coilover setup let me know please.

PS! My 9180 EFR turbo came in and now we're just waiting on the fuel surge tank. Follow my build soon and the shop.

Hey guys, name's Rich! New FD owner in town but not new to the rotary (had an rx8 back home). Stationed at Ft. Myer and been here for about a year. Looking to meet some fellow rotary owners in the area and hopefully start doing some auto cross and track events. The rotary scene back in Las Vegas was an awesome group of guys/gals, I'm sure I'll find the same here.

Hey Rich, welcome to the area. We do a couple of things around here of note. First off is that we usually do a beginning of season and end of season cruise (you can find the threads on them if you look around for a bit). There is also a couple of guys that go pretty regularly to a car meet on Friday nights (during the warm season) at the Dulles Town Center Chic-Fil-A (referred to as CFA on the forum). There are also two other Cars and coffee events that people rarely go to, but sometimes post up when they do for others to tag along. One is at Katie's in Great Falls which is *** early on Saturdays, the other is at Kohl's in Fair Lakes also early. There are many of us on here that do driving events too, some are more serious then others but all have fun. For AutoX there is the local SCCA chapter if you are more interested in competition and there are other clubs like CDC if you prefer a more laid back atmosphere. HPDEs in the 'local' area are mostly Summit point, VIR, and NJMP (someone correct me if I'm missing any).

We sometimes meet up outside of those common venues if someone has a good idea, but those are the big ones I know about. We've done karting, the drag strip, brewery tours, picnics, and I think there was even a crab feast last year. If you've got a good idea, put up a post and start a thread for it. Or, just hang out on this one and see what comes up.

Again, welcome

Welcome to the area Rich! As Rocky mentioned, CFA meets will be starting up again soon now that spring is here. It's not too bad a drive from Ft. Myer but you'll find you want to avoid 66 and the beltway during rush hour if you haven't already. GW Parkway -> Georgetown Pike would be a more fun way to get there maybe. Did you pick your FD up locally?

Speaking of track, anyone want to go to Summit Shen. on May 16-17th? https://www.trackdaze.com/

Welcome Rich! I typically go to the C&C in Fair Lakes, Va on Sunday mornings. There is usually a really big crowd (though not many RX7s). I am in the Ft. Meade area so it's about a 1 hour drive for me but very much worth it.

Really appreciate the warm welcome guys! I'll pay attention to the CFA meets and get myself out there along with some of the cars and coffee events. Yes the FD was picked up locally, black 94 on SSR's with the shine auto trunk lip thingy. Previously owner said he took it to cars and coffee frequently. definitely wanting to get some HPDE's under my belt! I'm excited to hear other organizations run them at summit, I thought FATT was the only thing and I RARELY see a Friday off so I was a bit disappointed. If I can get a healthier transmission in by May I would be game for it.

I have a datalogit that I am not currently using. I've lent it out before and don't mind doing it again if you don't need it for that long. I will need something of equal value to trade for the time being though.

Yeah, there are a bunch of groups that run at summit point.
- NASA HPDE
- Trackdaze
- SCCA PDX
- probably some others that I don't know about.

One of the guys that goes a lot will probably have a thread up sometime soon about CFA. If you want, you can review some of the old ones to get a feel for how they go. It's not a huge meet, but usually the best Rx-7 turnout in the area.

Usually 1600 or so the old school muscle cars come in. After about 1800 do the the other stuff start to come out. Mostly the same cars and bike's each week. But sometimes some random stuff comes out.

Like Rocky said best turn out for RX7/8's in the area. Plus side is the CFA gives out free sandwich coupons on a regular basis.
