Buying FD in Cali?

Anyone here who lives in MD or close have experiece with buying a car from california? I found a car that I like, but I'm confused as to where to start or the best way to do the transactions, as I've always purchased cars close to where I live. I'm looking for a specific model and color, and finding one is hard, so I'm looking at a car in Cali. Im interested in experiences with shipping/banking transactions as well as how you checked the car out, etc. Shipping companies? Also interested in how you made sure you got the car after sending money, or a better idea of how to do everything. Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
