VA Antique Plates

Is there anyone in VA that has antique plates on their fc or fb that uses it as a daily driver? I plan on starting my project 87 fc next month and i was thinking of getting antique plates. So if there is anybody out there with them give me your input. Thanks

We've used them on a few cars, but never daily drivers. You can only use the antique tags for shows, road tests, trips to the mechanic, etc.

And if you think like some people do and that "oh, what are the chances of the same cop seeing me on my drive everyday" then get ready to kiss that car goodbye for 5 years. In VA if you misuse the antique tag the DMV will revoke it's registration for up to 5 years, so then you'll have NO tags and no way of driving it, lol....

If you plan to DD, get the vintage tags... the difference is you can daily drive it but you'll still have to pass VA safety inspection...

I have several cars with antique plates but they are not daily drivers. Please do not abuse this law. It has not been easy to keep antique plates around due to too many rednecks abusing them in order to drive their beat-up, unsafe, shitty old jalopies on a daily basis. A couple state legislators have told me that it's all they can do to hold off the factions that want to enact further restrictions or eliminate antique plates altogether. Please do not give the anti-car people any more ammunition.

There is some inaccurate information in a previous post, and there are provisions in the law for using vehicles with antique plates as general transportation if certain conditions are met. Read the Code of Virginia, 46.2-730.

I have them, but I work out of town. I always fly to work and rent a car. So when I am home, all I do is drive to part shops, go to meets and "joy ride" within the 250 mile limit of home. It is a privilege to have them, since my car will not pass inspection. So I do not abuse or take any chances just in case. I love my car WAY too much to lose it for 5 years.

For PA you should just pick up Classic instead of Antique. Classic has no emissions check, just a safety check and the registration is good forever.
