Weber 44 IDF for race 12a

Can anyone share experience with the 44 IDF on a non ported (what I have now) to street ported (where I'm going) 12a?

Does it mount to the standard Weber DD manifold for the 12a? Are there specific issues to this carb as opposed to a 48 IDA/IDF? Any insight appreciated.

Car is an 85 12a with a RB header and custom exhaust. Considering the 44 IDF 'cause it can be bought for $240, about $150 less than the 48. That just about covers a used manifold.

Thanks.

IDA and IDF are different bolt patterns, so you would have to get a IDF specific manifold. The 44 IDF should work great on a stock port 12A, but it will be under carbed for a street port. If you do decide on the IDF I highly recomend the CB Performance update kit. Mind you you will have to spend some time and money figuring out exactly what jets to get it running properly. Most people hhere use the IDA because of it's better total flow capabilities, ease of modification, and there is so much more R&D on the IDA it's easier to tune and get running great.
The pro to the IDF is it's better progression circut makes it easier to get streetable. Though IDA's can be made to drive like a dream as well.
