So I figured out definitively that the 440d does NOT like running without a speed sensor. There is no setting on the closed loop idle box that can overcome it. Set the timeout to 0 and it tries to idle immediately when you lift off the throttle. Set it to 5000 and things get whacky 5 seconds of off throttle. I couldn't figure out how to get it to idle ONLY when clutch was depressed. And by whacky, I mean, it cuts about 10 degrees of timing then starts messing with fuel and idle valve to get the RPMs to drop even though I am still in gear coasting. So I went to the digital inputs tab and set a blank input to closed throttle. Major improvement! The ECU will never see closed throttle and never go into closed loop idle so all the weird stuff that was happening is gone. Now I need to go back and tune the closed throttle cells, and then maybe I can turn on throttle off overrun again. Also, I bet I can use an aux output to allow closed throttle to be true if RPMs drop below say 1200. Or I suppose I can invest in a speed sensor, but I couldn't find anything cheap.

Maybe with a IAC u need a speed sensor. I have have no speed sensor on my car with no problems. On the throttle off over run settings I found a delay of 500 works good. Temp at 150.
