first off, i have a freshly built 1/3 bridge S4 6-port. ran by a haltech e6k. using a S4 T2 stock map to break in the engine. but the timing does not feel right.

was looking at the different maps (S5 & rx8) https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=942868 and i am very confused cause it looks so much different than the turbo maps. yes, i am a noob needing so timing training!

can anybody give me a crash course in N/A rotary timing?

some of this is going to vary with the VE of the engine (exhaust, compression, intake, mixture, etc etc)

idle: stock is -5BTDC, somewhere between there and 5BTDC L works, the factory after 1979, runs a 15 degree split. at idle you just set it to whatever has it running the best. idle zone per the factory manuals is 500-1100rpms.

cruise: mazda runs a lot of timing, they usually cruise around 30-36 degrees, 2500-3500rpms, split is small, on the rx8, when you hit the gas, timing goes away really fast.

WOT. the factory maps, always start small, and work their way up. the rx8 hits its max advance @6k. the rx8 runs a 15 degree split, the s4/s5 na's run like 4.

max advance depends on VE, better VE = less timing. usually timing should be 18-24BTDC, start low and work your way up
