Heatshield Intake manifold gasket
Hi,
I was kinda curious if anyone has used such a thing like the Hondata thing. I know they don't make them for our cars but I have emailed them for maybe getting a few blank plates for me to machine myself.

The one with the s2000 did some extensive testing, also there's a dyno from a prelude.
The prelude gained about 5whp, and about 3ft/lb through out the power range.
Last person is a guy with centrifugal supercharger and he saw about 54*F drop at 7psi @ 6600rpm.
For about 50$ for the piece, i don't really think you can go wrong bang for buck. Anyways let me know if you've tried anything like this out.

I'd suggest just ordering some Phenolic or other high temp plastic sheet from a plastic supply place. Get a big sheet and cut it into a bunch of chunks big enough to make gaskets out of and make a group buy out of it.

One should wonder how much of the reported HP gain is due to the statement "and bypassing several heat sources" and how much is due to the gasket. Could be some creative marketing.

Also, if you're serious about insulating the manifold you need to consider the bolts too. You can drill the manifold holes out larger, put some rubber hose over the bolts and use some plastic washers under the bolt heads to insulate them from transferring heat to the manifold as well.

One of the magazines I was reading through yesterday intalled just that on civic SI just doing this nothing else and they noted about 14*F on average drop.
I was able to get intouch with them though and they said they won't sell blanks and wont make anything for rotaries because the engine might run too hot and melt it. But If you keep a stock gasket inbetween this and the other piece than I don't see how it would.

I was skeptical too, but I did it on my Protege5(daily), and was pleasantly suprised. You know that feeling when you have been in the car just long enough to get the coolant up to temp, and the car feels unusually strong? With those gaskets, its like that all the time. I could drive my car for any amount of time, pull over, and the intake manifold will be cool to the touch.
If theres any interest, I can make them for any engine configuration.

I have a spacer for my ITB and I believe that its made out of this stuff. But the one betweent the intake and engine is the most crucial one i think.
Mazdaspeed7, how much would you sell me some blanks for? I need some for my 12a and also need some for our Formula SAE car. Thanks
