NA isnt cheap to make power., you could go stand alone and get rid of the stock air box and get a nice tune. Thats pretty cheap to me.

I got an 87' gxl. I got RB True Duals, including the headers, a cone air filter, bout to have the Intake manifolds swapped out, my groundings are getting re-done. After that I'm sitting in the same boat you are. It's a noticeable difference when you get the headers and exhaust put on, also when the grounds are good you can feel it a little better.

Here is what is done to my s4 motor in my 85gsl

ported, dual 40mm DHLAs, SDJ header, xr-1 used as a presilencer, and a Ebay N! can on the back. It makes good power and is rev happy, for an actual S5 I would get something more free flowing than the RB system unless you are worried about how loud it is, get a different filter setup, and you can do lil things with an AFC, but beyond that the stock computer is holding you back and really the $600 for a Megasquirt and a tune is well worth the money.

The ECU is holding back huh? before I tuned my car, the best way you can with 0 dollars(drive it) I had a HORRIBLE hesitation. I fixed like 3 grounds, changed my battery ground and did the Wiring harness ground, and it seems to work a **** load better. And I was told by some doods out here (vegas) That you can roll with the stock ecu till you turbo it.

That really isnt free HP, that is getting back to original specs, although the hesitatio is really annoying. As far as the stock ECU holding you back, it really does, because you cannot adjust anything to bring out hte best of any mod you do to the car, that and you have to use the stock AFM which is a restriction.

If your cars exhaust is completely stock(ie isnt all welded up) and it is a RB header then yes you can, I am not to sure about pacesetter other than it will rust out efore to long.
