E85, E100, Meth/Alchohol and carbs

E85, E100, Meth/Alchohol and carbs

I have a set of 51ida Webers on my streetported 12a right now. I'm running regular 93 octane fuel in it. But very soon I will be doing an all motor peripheral 12a and switching to an alchohol based fuel. As far as I know, nothing really has to be done to the Webers themselfs when switching to alchohol or E85. Just fuel pump/lines/filter. Which is all getting swapped out anyway to handle the PP.

My question is really about running the 1st gen dizzy and where to get started on timing. Just advance it until it idles smooth and tune it from there? Don't really have a clue here...

You are running a set of Webers as in two?

When switching from gas to alcohol in any setup you have to add alot more fuel. You will need a alcohol fuel pump, huge gross jet, huge main jet and small airjet, and **** loads of timing. You will definetely need to weld on or make a hang on extended fuel bowl because the tiny stock one on the Weber will not cut it and will dry that biotch out by the end of second gear. Remember these webers were made to run in pairs on one engine not one running an entire engine. Also, when tuning your EGT temps will be alot lower than with gas. Regarding the timing you will have to keep advancing it until peak power is attained and then lower one to two degrees to be safe. Same with setting timing with gas. You will need to add alot though, I guarantee that. You may even have to notch and weld on a plate for the adjustment on the distributor to get more advance. Oh and dont' leave that stuff inside your system. After every event, you need to drain the entire system down and run gas through it or it will have a field day on your entire system/engine. There's alot of power that can be made with methanol but it's a pain in the *** to maintain which is why I'm running gas still

Which is why I'm thinking of running e85 instead. And eventually move onto big boy Meth.

And I am only going to run one 51ida Weber. I was going to start with advancing the dizzy all the way over and what Racing Beat recommends for the 51ida in a PP application. Then add 30% more fuel as a starting point. Since (on average) E85 needs 30% more fuel to run correctly.

I haven't heard much info on running e85 on N/A rotaries. I know someone who did try it on his 13bpport N/A car and didnt' like it, but also said he was having fuel pump problems so who knows. I guess you can try it and let us know.
One thing I would do first is get a good base run on gas and then switch to the E85 so that you can compare the two. If not, then you will never know how much power you made or lost. Oh, I can tell you first hand that all the info posted on the Racing Beat site is very, very conservative and behind the times.
