Pikes Peak Sports Car Club Autocross April 27th.

Hey folks, how about some seat time? I really do have a Mazda and will have it out here. It would be great to have a big turnout from the front range Mazdas. The Pikes Peak Sports Car Club is staging an autocross on April 27th. It will be at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City. We're the “little guys” who have been staging events for many years, with smaller numbers and usually more runs. Test and tune? Trade rides? Have fun! This event is open to all cars. All drivers must work. All cars must pass a safety inspection and have seat belts. Drivers and passengers must wear helmets. Some loaners are available. NO LOUD CARS! We must respect the noise limitations. If there is doubt, the car won't run. We would like to see lots of you out there. Tech and registration 8:30-9:30. Entry fee is $40. Pre registration is not required, but speeds things up for you on site.
You must join the Pikes Peak Sports Car Club forum to pre register.

What would you consider a "loud car"? I have a FD with no cat, full exhaust, and a wastegate that is blows under my car.

Sound question

Have you run with the SCCA's noise limits without violating them? We may not have the sound equipment on site early in the day, so we will be judging by ear. My car is not the quietest car but I've always been below 90 db.
We will err on the side of caution rather than endangering the use of the site.

*Unofficial* opinion

First off, I wholeheartedly recommend running with the PPSCC, great bunch of guys! As far as sound, here's my experience as Solo sound chief for the Denver area SCCA regions: We have one guy running a pretty extensively modified FD in SM2 who finally figured out how to get his car to pass sound, it's been a real struggle for a couple years, but he makes some pretty big power. We also had a guy show up at Coors field with an exhaust that appears to be similar to what you describe (I don't remember exactly what he had) and an otherwise mostly stock car, and he was just over. So, I'd guess you'd be flirting with "too loud". Sound is always course dependent and condition dependent, but I expect you could have problems getting through an SCCA event. With that said, I'd suggest you go down to the local parts store, buy an elbow that will fit your exhaust (a full 90 degrees), some coarse steel wool (the fine stuff can catch on fire ), some metal screen and a few muffler clamps. Put the elbow on so it points straight down towards the pavement and try it like that. If you sound too loud to the event officials, add the steel wool (held in place with the screen and another muffler clamp or hose clamp). I think you'll have a blast running with the PPSCC but I really encourage everybody to take sound seriously. We just lost Coors field because of sound and Denver sites are as rare as Hens teeth, so we *really* need to protect what we have!!!!

Thanks for the kind words Barry.
I have been told we will have a sound meter there. The nearest homes are about 1/4 mile away. But, we still must be careful.
The event is THIS SUNDAY! Come out and play.
