Are Jap motors good?
I just bought an 1987 RX-7 and got a 3rd gen motor from Japan. I'm looking to install it and get some upgrades done. Does anyone know any place in COlorado that does rebuild, ports, or mods?

ya precision (spelling) imports off federal and belview ish.... a fd motor into an fc takes quite a bit of work... but I'd love to see it done when you finish... I'm over in littleton and have a fc and an fd. thats the only place I'd take my rx7's in all of colorado.

I know I'm not in this region, but thought I would post this site for you just to help you out.

Are Jap motors any good?
Yeah I've already done all the prep work to install the fd motor I'm concerned though that I found oil build up in the exhaust, Turbo manifold, and on the spark plug. I've been researching the option of a master rebuild kit. But Mazda USA, and Mazda Japan both agree that I should just scrap my motor and buy a new one. Has anyone had their 13b's re-sealed in CO or rebuilt? and if so where?

nope never had one rebuilt here. only one I've ever had rebuilt i sent to pineapple in portland, OR.... but I lived 3 hours from there at the time. But I wouldn't scrap the engine at all... what kinda compression does it have? could be as easy as a re seal job...and while you're in there port it... if you pull the motor apart you can figure out whats good and what needs replaced... chances are you'll just need new apex seals and springs, new rings, do the oil pelet fix (like 4 washers is all thats needed) port it (since it's open already). Gotta check to make sure everythings still within spec though (rotor faces and housings).
Id call precision, I asked them a year ago if they do rebuilds and porting and they said yea... when i was there last, there was 5 FD's, one motor being rebuilt, and 3 fc's.

Alright that gives me a place to start. I'm also looking to do a drift/street/drag build. Does anyone know any good tuner shops in CO that won't charge you an arm and a leg for stuff you could do at home on the weekends?

Talk to the boys at SpeedMachine (www.speedmachineperformance.com) in California for more details on cryo. An alternative would be Cermet B. Call up Joe at RPM for more information (www.rpmperformance.ca).

lol I'm also doing a drift/street/drag setup on my fd... anyhow theres are huge compromise on all parts... you'll never have a perfect setup for any of the racing, but you can have a good enough setup for all.
MAC Autosports sponsors my drift team, and they have their own drift car, built strictly for drift (it's a 240 though) they REALLY know their stuff when it comes to drift and tuning, how much they'll charge though I dunno.

lol no problem that's good info....yeah I was thinking about going strickly drift but being that I'm CO the streets aren't exactly the best streets to be running a drift car on.....but I'm hoping to get my car built up enough to enter drfit day.

MAC sponsors you huh? I doubt it but ok.
go over to www.codrift.org for event info.
In terms of a rotary specialist. Jim Berg at A&H Auto in Parker is hands down the best in the state. Dont waste time with anyone else. Get A&H's number through google or something.

should I point out everything thats wrong with this statement?
and like USS CJ said, Jim Berg is amazing... great work, great price, and he does it fast. he can rebuild your motor, and port it, and do all kinds of cool stuff on it.
or, if you want to do it for REALLY cheap, I can rebuild it for you....
