Fort Collins - Let's go for a drive

I'm going to go for a drive through Horsetooth/Rist Canyon this Saturday morning. I think ScrapFC is up for a drive too. Anyone else wanna go? I'm thinking of making it a leisurely drive, I'll be taking my Silver Impreza WRX Wagon.

I'm thinking 9:00 leaving from JJ's at Harmony and Taft Hill.

If it snows too much tomorrow, I'm going to hold off going up into Rist for a better weekend.

The weatherman predicts up to a foot of snow. If he's wrong, I'm up for it. Me and my Azenis are NOT up for snow driving...

Yeah, I think the drive in the high country is going to have to wait.

Heh. Yeah, I think we're done. I was gonna see if I could rob the Blizzaks off my roomie's CRX (I heard the wheels interchange), but there will probably be too much depth up there anyway...

I slid into a ditch on Devil's Gulch road a couple of years ago and ended up totaling the car. I won't make the mistake of thinking if it's nice down here, it must be nice up in Estes (or any other part of the mountains) again.

Ouch! No fun there. Maybe it is better to wait until you *know* the snow is gone...
I'm thinking of dropping in on the AutoX down at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City next Saturday. Other than that, any time next weekend should work. (Assuming the roads clear by then)

I can't do this weekend, unfortunately.

Deal's Gap? Yikes! Nice road (if a little over-patrolled these days), but a pretty long trip to get there. I *am* thinking we should try some of the local roads this weekend. With the weather this week, they should be pretty well dry, yes?

Yes, let's go! Saturday and Sunday is clear for me. I still haven't done my Rist Canyon drive yet, so let's do that.

Purple82: I'm down for Rist canyon. How about Saturday morning, 9am at JJ's?
Laurel: Don't worry about having a seven. I'll be bringing my Miata.
Musclecarconvert: Don't worry about missing this one. There will be others.

Alright, 9am at JJ's. I'm still not sure if I'll be driving my Rx-7 on this one either, but I'll be there.

I'd be OK with Sunday instead if more people can go.

Well, I went by myself, it was a beautiful morning. It's still snowy and icy on the roads in a couple of spots.

Sorry, I had to work. Otherwise I would've come. It was still icy in some spots the other day when I went too.

Hopefully next time there will be more takers. The farther we go into the summer, the more often I see Porsches, Ferraris, Loti, and I even crossed an Audi R8 last year. There's going to have to be a couple more weeks of warm weather for the roads to totally clear up.

Yeah. Definitely some of those curves are surrounded by trees. There are other fun drives we could take too, til the ice melts.

I made it a few minutes late and also went by myself. Nice drive! The tiptoe through the slush patches on my Azenis was a little exciting, but the sand and gravel wasn't bad at all.
