Anyone in the Boulder to Denver area? Local Tuners?

Hey guys,

I have a year left at CU . I picked up my 4th FD and will be bringing this one with me to Colorado (from Texas) since I finally was able to find a place to live that has underground, garaged parking.

I was just seeing who, if anyone is in the Boulder / Denver area, I would like to make some rotary friends.

Also, are there any legit rotary shops / known tuners in Colorado? Here in Texas we have Steve Khan at Gotham Racing who is pretty good. If there aren't any tuners in that area, I will hold off on going single for a while.

Mike and Marc at Precision Import on Federal, know their RX7s (of all generations) pretty well. I dunno about their tuning prowess though.

Btw there is a royal ton of rotary guys in the Denver/Boulder and Springs area.

How about track days? Are there any road courses in the Denver region that I can register for?

I'm in the Springs. There are about 5 or 6 of us here with FDs, that I know of, probably more. And even more with other generations. I was quite shocked when I moved here 3 months ago and saw the community. Of those 5 or 6 FDs only a couple are running though, HAHA. There are a few of us that have pretty good knowledge of FDs though. There are a couple guys in Denver with FDs that we know too...Mike B is pretty popular, I'm surprised he hasn't been mentioned yet, and a couple other newer owners. Mike has a club called Mile High Rotaries, www.milehighrotaries.com I think is the website.

There is a really good tuner here in town too, his name is Frank but I forget the name of his shop. I'm told he travels in this part of the west and tunes, and Edelbrock just dropped off $5k in parts for free for him to distribute, haha. Not that it has anything to do with tuning, but it still looks good on him. He's a retired E-8 from the Air Force, did avionics on F-16s IIRC. He's EXTREMELY good. I'm taking mine to him when I get my single in.

There are a few tracks in the area I'm told. Well, it would be a bit of a drive for you, but Pueblo has a track, and I heard there are a couple others but I don't know where. And almost every weekend SCCA autocrosses here in C Springs.

EDIT: It's www.milehighrotaryclub.com, here's a thread here on the forums. I didn't know he was a mod, hahaha.

Good luck and come see us sometime!

I live in boulder, but I only have FBs. As far as the shops go I don't know of any. So far I have done all the work myself. If you find any good ones that will work on a 1st gen. let me know. Jon

Welcome to the forums! I haven't been on much since so much was going on with trying to be ready for Pinks All Out.

I would like to set up another Rotary meet before the end of the year, but not sure how many people would end up coming as not too many showed up at the Spring meet.

Hey Mike, when are we having another drive through the mountains? I'm hoping all of us rotaries can keep from overheating this time so we can stay with the group, haha. And it's no fair you were driving the CX-7, haha.

I have heard from a reliable source that Precision has messed up more than a few rotary cars with their tunes...

And if there are a royal ton of rotary guys around here, how come we never meet up?

Mike I would definitely come out to a rotary meet! And a cruise with rotary guys would be awesome too Let's get this ish going, I'm starting to think that rotary owners are even lazier than 240SX owners

As for tracks, there is Pueblo Motorsports Park as speedjunkie mentioned. It's old and somewhat small but still a LOT of fun to drive on. It's about a two hour drive from Denver, or less depending on how fast you drive.

Pikes Peak International Raceway is about to open back up, they have what's called a "roval", that is, a road course inside of an oval.

And there are several road courses in the works right now, notably Genoa Motorsports Park, High Plains Raceway, and Motorsports Country Club (Ring of the Rockies). All are going to be really nice tracks, and HPR will probably be sanctioned by SCCA.

^Damn I can't wait for all these tracks to open haha. There was word that Pueblo was closing due to letting the lease expire but apparently that's just a rumor.

We're getting a pretty good group of rotaries hanging out together down here, you guys are more than welcome to come down and join. There are 6 FDs (4 of us currently running on the road with 1 more about there haha), an FC and an FB. There are more but we have to find them. I think I'm about to put out flyers. We're trying to get a huge group together. And I'd like to get maintenance days on some weekends to just work on our cars that need it. Maybe learn something in the process.

And we're trying to get Mike B to rally everyone in Denver together too, AH-EM...MIKE, are you listening?!! Haha.

Well, I am finally moved in to my apartment here in Boulder. I am getting my self a garage where I will be able to work on my car (and anyone else is welcome to come by if they need help with their car).

My car was running purrrrrrfect before I left Austin and since I got here my car has developed some interesting issues. I do not know whether or not they are directly related to the increase in elevation or if it just occurred during the 1k mile drive but I would really appreciate it if any of you would take a look at this thread I have running in the 3rd gen section to see if you have any prior experience with the issues I am having.

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/help-diagnose-780151/

That is the link to the thread I started. I am lead to believe that the excess oil in my intercooler piping is due to a blown turbo seal but I am not positive yet and would like to get this figured out. If so, I can overhaul the turbo. Also, is a vacuum reading of 12-14 normal in higher altitude? I am used to generally seeing roughly 18 - 20 inches of vacuum at sea level.

Thanks

One other thing, this question is directed to Mike the club president. I called Steve Khan up yesterday to talk with him and try and troubleshoot my car. He told me to ask you when his next visit is being planned to come up and do a Colorado tuning session

I think Mike is trying to get another Steve Khan tuning session planned for the beginning of next year. I asked him about it a couple months ago and that's what he said, anyway.

As others have said in your thread the vac issue is because of the altitude and it's completely normal. My car did exactly the same thing when I brought it up here from NC. I don't know how your car is tuned, but mine was tuned really well for sea level, and has done fine up here. However my turbos are now leaking too and the previous owner said he never had any problems with that, so I'm curious if it's related to altitude...

Also, I don't know if you're ever down in Denver but I'm always down to meet up with fellow rotor heads so send me a PM if you want to Maybe we can troubleshoot eachother's oil leaks and make it an official rotary meet
