MoTeC How to check if Motec M800 is still alive

How to check if Motec M800 is still alive
So everything is wired up, not ready to actually do a test start but just wondering, I did buy this motec used is there a way to see if it still works. I uploaded the software and the software states that there is no motec connected even though it is. Is it maybe because of the connection i used? Also are the two grounds to ground the motec necessary?
