Wisconsin, 1 or 2 plates?
Wisconsin, 1 or 2 plates?
Here's the statute, my question, is there any way to get issued just 1 plate? does the specialized, military or personal plates come in 1 or 2?
In a nutshell, if you get issued 2, you have to display 2. So is there any way to get issued just 1?

Yes, you need two plates.
It depends on where you live though. In Appleton, Madison, Milwaukee...I never had any trouble running one....
But I'm actually on my way to court right now because the tiny town of Platteville didn't like my front plate on my Saturn....gay.

A state trooper pulle a guy I work with over at St Payy's day for no front plate, and the guy went drink 12 hours earlier, the trooper made him walk the line and then blow into the tube (because someone spilt beer on him) he blew just over .08. But that's what you get for playing with fire... Anyeway, the trooper told him it was a sting for drunk drivers, and at one point, the guy saw 6 cars pulled over.
Please don't run a front plate. If they give you a fix-it ticket, pop it on to get the ticket signed off, and pop it back off after the cop walks away. If everyone would stop being ****** and dump the front plates we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Been driving my fd all over wisconsin, mostly milwaukee area since '01 without a front plate. Even when pulled over for allegedly "speeding" and even "racing" , not a word was said about my lack of front plate

if your car is yellow you have to run two.
if you repaint your car grey you can run one.
under the radar V look at me.
the real answer is it just depends... i run one and i avoid Newburg where my wife got stopped for no front plate on her FD. other than that one incident neither of us have been stopped.
w the cooling being marginal on the fd as well as it looking like like a toyota w a front plate.... plus all the additional front weight, i'd stash the plate on the garage wall and take my chances.

I guess i just really don't understood this law. I see corvette's new BMWs Mercedes Porsches running no front plate all day long but rarely hear of them getting tickets for no front plates, or they just get them and have the money to pay for them so no worries? I haven't got busted yet for not front plate, but my dad has a couple times. I think its just sillyness
Ah, Burlington...surprisingly never had any problems with the unbelievably inept police force there, despite how often I was in town. My ex-girlfriend that I dated for two years lives there.
I have only had 1 Plate on mine in Madison since a few monthes after I got it. We think there dealer took one plate off and never put it back, so for a month I drove with a front plate and no rear, and just switched them. They have never stopped me, nor do they seem to notice it doenst have that 2nd Month sticker on it.
i just got pulled over for no front plate in burlington. cop was a real dick to me too. no ticket but i have to get a plate on by the weekend. he pulled me over cuz he was pissed taht he got dumped by his gf. ******* bullshit. i hate how the fc looks with a front plate. but owell, i'll be moving to illinios in a few weeks. does anyone know the plate law in illinios?
Several years ago in my Integra, I got pulled over for having a "loud exhaust." I was kind of an *** to the cop since he pulled me over while I was driving next to a Harley. I told him to prove it and show me the reading on the SPL meter, because my exhaust was well within WI state dbl level. And I had the supporting documentation to prove it …….He didn’t have a SPL meter.
Instead, he walked around front of the car, noticed I didn’t have a front plate and wrote me a $112 ticket. I did not have a place to secure the plate to the front bumper, he said it didn’t need to be, I could have just stuck the plate on the front dash for all he cared.
I learned my lesson, don’t be an *** to a cop and always have the front license plate in the car so I can throw it up on the dash when I get pulled over. Though, I haven’t been pulled over since.

i was actually very polite to the cop, i explained to him that the fc didn't have a good place to mount the front plate. he said he didn't car, that all cars sold on the united states have to have a place to mount the front plate. o well, i guess that means i have to put it back on the car today.
i could have sworn that if your vehicle does not have the provisions to mount a front plate( from the factory)ie. bracket or holes , they cannot force you to modify the vehicle to accept one, nor fine you for it.
well the final verdict from the cop shop was that all cars in wisconsin are required to have a plate mounted to the front of the car, not the winshield or anywhere else. so i put mine back on the car and i hate it. o well tho. if it gets this cop off me thats good.
