Volunteer/Free Track time for NASA Midwest & Great Lakes
If you're on a tight budget, or have the free time but the car is not ready, come take advantage of the volunteer program offered by NASA Midwest and Great Lakes regions. They need people in all areas like registration, timing & scoring, tech, grid, etc. etc. No experience required, but you do need to be 18 or older.
More info here:
http://www.nasamidwest.com/pages/volunteer.asp
Basically, for every day you work, you would accumulate 4 pts. Every 8 pts get you a free track day in the Midwest or Great Lakes region. The points are transferrable between people too, so it would be perfect if you had your girlfriend/wife work (or boyfriend/husband for you girl racer), and you drive on the track for free.
Here are the event schedules:
Great Lakes Region:
April 11-13 - Mid-Ohio
May 17-18 - Putnam Park**
June 7-8 - Grattan**
July 11-13 - Mid-Ohio
August 1-3 - Road America**
August 15-17 - Mid-Ohio
October 11-12 - Putnam park
** = Crossover event for both regions
Midwest Region:
April 26-27 - Gateway
May 17-18 - Putnam Park**
June 7-8 - Grattan**
June 28-29 - Mid America Motorplex
July 19-20 - Autobahn Country Club (South Track)
August 1-3 - Road America**
September 6-7 - Gingerman (HPDE only)
October 13 - Autobahn Country Club (Full Track)
For those who are interested, you need to fill out the sign-up form here:
http://www.nasamidwest.com/docs/volunteer.xls
then email it to the Volunteer Coordinator:
Volunteer@nasamidwest.com
Again, all the info should be in this link:
http://www.nasamidwest.com/pages/volunteer.asp
Please don't put it off if you are really interested, because only limited number of volunteers are needed for each event, and they need time to plan and staff.

Yeah it really is a great program.
One weekend at Putnam, my car crapped out on me the very first session of the first day. I was bummed but I didn't just pack up and leave. I stuck around and asked if I could work the grid.
I ended up working the whole weekend and got a free track day out of it. I was able to drive the next event at Autobahn for free.
