Need an appraiser in SW Indiana

I posted this in general automotive as well as here. If a mod knows a better place to put this thread, please consolidate my threads and/or move to the more appropriate forum.

My father and I both own S5 convertibles that we'd like to get appraised. We both live in Evansville, IN. He is gearing up to sell his and mine has a JDM swapped engine. I want to get mine appraised for insurance purposes. I can't find the thread ATM, but an RX owner was paying extra insurance on his investment in his car. After a tree fell on his car he was running into trouble getting the insurance company to give him the correct value on his car. I think the technicality was that he needed to have the car appraised as well as pay the extra on insurance.

For your insurance you might want to call a shop that does that kind of work and for a small fee they might give you a write up on how much it would cost to do what you have done to your car. A list of parts with cost and cost of labor to install, is what the insurance will want. That's what my insurance company told me. The hard part will be finding a shop to do it. You might try calling Banzai Racing in Pierceton, IN.

To get a price for selling a modded car is totally different. There are no set rules, you get what you get. If you find someone who really wants the car then you might get more. But I think a lot of people see a modded car as "It must be broke, why would he sell it" . I would decide how much you want for it, then put it on eBay with a reserve.
Good Luck

Thanks for the reply and info. My father's car is completely stock, untouched 90, maybe 91 convertible with all the options. ABS breaks, airbag, the little speakers behind the two seats. The rebuilt engine has about 80k documented miles on it and it was freshly painted..um....probably 10 yrs ago. And the leather seats were redone around the same time that it was painted. It's been garage kept it's whole life so about the only noticeable flaw is the convertible top which has began to disentigrate at the seams. And the bumpers each have a ding. Oh and one rust spot at the passenger side rear wheel well lip. He wants his appraised as a tool to sell.

My car is an 89 convertible which has had a JDM 13B T engine and tranny swapped into. I got a USDM driveshaft, diff, and half-shafts, an N370 pressure sensor, and an N390 (BOV...that's not what the FSM call it though). The only other noteable changes to my car a Racing Beat REVII 3" exhaust, and a custom TID. My car is a work in progress with things plans for the typical upgrades of fuel, EMS, suspension. I want mine appraised for insurance purposes. So that I can have it insured for how much money I've spent on it, rather than NADA value.

His car is black, mine red. I LOVE the look of black convertible RXs and I'm trying to convince him to let me swap all the mechanics of our two cars so that I can have a black turbo convertible and he can sell a red N/A convertible. While both engines are out I'd love to rebuild them. Give each of the engine bays a good scrubbing so they are all neat and clean. Increase the value of his car, increase the life expectancy of my car....and it would finally be a black TII convertible.

and THAT is the rest of the story......
