Minnesota RX7 Service Needed

Can anyone tell me where I can get my 1982 RX7 GSL serviced? I live in Savage Minnesota (just south of Minneapolis next to Burnsville) and I am trying to find someone or shop that actually knows how to work on these cars. My car has only 47000 miles and is in perfect condition and I don't want to trust it with just anyone. Thanks. Posted July 24, 2012.

Owning an old car you want to maintain and keep is just different than a normal late model daily driver. Especially a rotary which most people shy away from due to being unfamilliar with them. 1st gens are in their 30's now which means that most mechanics who worked on them back in the day, have or are approaching retirement. Finding a good, qualified mechanic who will take the care and attention to detail that you may be wanting is like finding the perverable needle in the haystack.

Truly, your best bet is to download the service manuals, start collecting some spare parts and learn to tinker with your pride and joy yourself. No one will give it the same care and devotion as the guy who gets to turn the key and take her out for a spin. Most service and maintenance can be accomplished with basic mechanical knowledge and skills.

Understanding how a rotary motor functions is the main thing that is out of the ordinary. Hanging aroung this site and reading the threads other people post with their questions is a great way to learn a whole bunch of general knowledge about these cars. Get involved a little, post some pictures of your car and introduce yourself in the 1st gen section of this site. Thats a great place to post your own questions. You'll get a bunch of advice and opinion there. Over time, you'll learn who to listen to.

Given your location, you seem to be in luck. There is TURBLOWN Performance, located in Ramsey, MN

Contact TURBLOWN Performance Engineering - Phoenix, Arizona
(disregard link location, they are located in Minnesota)

I have personally never worked with them but have heard numerous good reports. It also cannot hurt that they specialize in Rotary builds.

There is also MAPerformance.

Services - Modern Automotive Performance

They are one of the leaders in Minnesota's tuning and import community and will have more than enough knowledge regarding the rotary to help you with whatever you may need.

MAP can't do **** for us rotories. Don't bother calling them. They have a 4g63 fd and now it's a v8 so that right there gives u the vibe they are sending with rx7's.

Best advice you'll ever get. I'm in my 50's and remember the rep these cars had, I'm learning and am not afraid of my wankle like when i first got it. Like any old car that's starting to show her age, they need a little extra attention so take the time and get to know her.

Good luck and enjoy the ride!!!

I am considering contacting Turblown as it is local here. They have an extremely good repuation, as stated above, and they would be within a short drive from you in Savage. Also, they have pictures of the rotary builds they have done that just make me drool!
