Michigan- Soutwest area?
Hey guys
Post if you're in the area. I'd like to assemble a sort of mailing list of owners in the area, so I can notify you of upcoming events, meets, or races.

No meetings planned at the moment, but I'll probably throw something together in the next few weeks. Next event is 8/11, an autocross in Lansing if anyone is interested...

I just purchased a 1985 GS, two owner with 135000 miles, and in pretty good condition. I gave up my 1984 300ZX for it, and so far so glad!
I'd like to upgrade the wheels to at least 14's, new suspension would be nice, and maybe an exhaust.
I had a 1979 base model as my first car back in 1984, so I'm re-living my youth...
I'd look forward to meeting other RX7 owners in SW Michigan.

Hi Scott and welcome to the area. As you may already know, that 4x110 bolt pattern is really going to limit your choices to move up to a larger wheel. I would suggest killing two birds with one stone and upgrading both the front and rear suspension to the GSL-SE suspension and you'll gain the more popular 4x114.3mm(4.5in) pattern plus front and rear vented discs as well as the LSD 4.07(4.09?):1 differential. As far as exhaust goes, at least get the the RB header. After that it is your choice to go custom or pay the high price for the rest of the RB system.

Could use some more info
If I stick with the stock rims, can I put a 195/60 or 205/60 13 on without any problem? When you say RB header, I assume you mean Racing Beat. Who are your favorite for springs? I like Eibach or Koni. Put a full set on a SpecMiata 3 years ago. Is this a possibility for the 7? I am a Miata guy at heart, but couldn't pass on this RX!

Any chance you can make it to the Autocross in Lansing this Saturday? You can check out my car for further upgrade reference...
Tires, you can mount 215/50/13 Sumitomo HTR 200s on there without any problems... Decent tire, and dirt cheap to boot.

If you can find Koni struts for the FB, go for it. Besides Bilsteins, these are one of the best struts short of coil over setups which aren't really practical on the FB. Tokicos (sp?) are ok as well (in fact, Tokicos were/are used in Spec7 rules as well). For even further performance drop the watts linkage on the rear and go with a 3-link plus panhard bar. Night and day difference in handling and you lose the snap oversteer caused by the watts linkage.
Thanks for the info on the 215's... Tire Rack I presume?

I got my last set from Discount Tire. I think I paid around $230.00 installed and balanced... They had to get them from their warehouse, but were in the following day.
For suspension, check out www.re-speed.com They have the Tokico Illumina shock/struts at a great price, and also offer coilovers if you really plan on racing seriously. Great place to deal with...

No problem with the transplants.
Its all about the love for the cars, and the driving too. The more the better!
Anyone who didn't make it to Lansing this past weekend missed out on a great autocross event. There were some really nice exotics there, including a brand new Lotus, but of course none of them could catch my 7...
