KC area tuners?
The deal is my son, almost 16, and I bought a 1979 RX7 recently. It is in pretty good shape with only 92,000 miles on it. 12A engine with 5 speed tranny. It was stored for 8 years (1996-2003) so that is reason of the low amount of miles. Engine smokes white smoke on start up if it has been sitting for more than a few days. We were told dry seals could cause this? Maybe the car was not prepped correctly before storage. We can put up with the start up smokage for right now.
We have removed seats and console to replace the carpet. Working on a little surface rust on floor pan but nothing to really worry about. The shocks and struts are original so they are on the schedule to replace. I noticed the rummber bushings on suspension were old, hard and bit compressed. So they need to be replace. Think Victoria British can provide replacement bushings. Exhaust also loks original and we are keeping our fingers crossed that it will pass MO. inspection.
Anyway, I am looking for a knowledgable mechanic to give the car a real close look over, identifying any areas of concern we newbies might miss. Also feel like a good tuneup is in store to get car running it's best. Since the car is 27 years old and has the points based distributor, I would like the work done by someone who is familiar with the 12A rotary engine. I don't really want to visit Blue Ridge Mazda but want it checked over closely and correctly tuned.
Any suggestions/recommendations on good rotary mechanics in KC/Lees Summit area. Could go as far as Lawrence if need be. Car runs but roughly.
Thanks for the input. And if you see a yellow 79 buzzing around Lees Summit, that's us.
