Talking IL - No More Emissions For Rotaries

Just recieved a letter from the Illinois Emissions that states that vehicles model year 1995 and older are no longer subject to emissions. Lucky for us the last Rx7 for the U.S. was 1995,saying that all of our cars do not have to be bothered with the worry of passing those test anymore. Finally something good has happend for the Rotary powered vehicles.

Illinois EPA website says 1967 and older are exempt.

It'd be great if our cars didn't need to be tested but I haven't seen any official documents saying so.

MY DAD got the same letter in the mail. My car is registered in FL now so it doesn't matter. I will take a pic of the paper and post it up tomorrow.

wow thats crazy. I have just been hearing this as a rumor left and right the past year or so. I've never seen something on actual paper saying that it was true but i guess this proves it. This is gonna make my life a whole lot easier.

I don't live in Illinois but we don't have emmisions in Iowa so welcome to the club. It's nice being able throw 3foot flames and not get in trouble.

We do not have any emission testing in Indiana either, with exception to a few counties.

I'm pretty sure that with the possible exception of the counties that are considered more part of Cinci than Kentucky that we don't have to worry about emissions at all here in Kentucy (i.e., they just don't have testing at all ).

Yeah...Lake and Porter (NW In) and Indianapolis do. I just happen to live in Lake. Sucks.

And I had mentioned this on the RC3 site...just to play devil's advocate. It says "in compliance with the law as of..." So my question is what the hell does that mean.

For example, my car is currently registered in IL, but southern, so I don't need to worry about emissions testing there. The last time I did take a test was in 02, and I passed. Technically, I would have had to take it again in 06. So, that said, if I now register my car up here, am I considered compliant? As someone had mentioned, you'd need to take it once, and if you're good, then you don't need to worry about it again. I need to pose this question to the SOS, so I'll let you all know what that answer is.

LOL. I'm just messin'.

As for the 5spd swap...when budget permits. I have some higher priority projects i'm working on. I still have parts that Riz has "set aside" from me...so i'm hoping to get the parts when things slow down a bit for me.

Just to add. I had to test my wife's 92 Delta Eighty Eight Royal, last week. She was scheduled to test in 10/06. After testing, her car passed. Instead of getting a pass sticker, it said exempt on it. At this time I got a flier that stated that cars that are 95 and older do not have to be tested anymore. I to had heard rumors but have been skeptical. I proceeded to go inside and talk to the guy at the desk to ask a couple of questions.

I asked if we bought a car that was 95 and older do we have to pass the test once and then be exempt, or is it automatically exempt.

I also wanted to know if I re registered a car that was currently out of the testing area, to my current address which is in the testing area. Will I have to pass the test once and then be exempt, or is it automatically exempt.

The answer to both of these questions was. I wont have to take the test.
