I have a 93 rx7 and I have recently decided to go single turbo. I have almost got the entire kit together. But I am having second thoughts about pulling out the motor and installing it myself. I am very new to the rotary world and worried that if I attempt this my self it will be a very long time till my car is back in action. On second hand I really want to do it myself so I can learn more about it. But I don’t think I can learn to run before I learn to crawl. So I guess what I am asking is does anybody have and good shops for installs in the MN, WI area. As much as I hate to let someone I don’t know do my fun turbo project id hate it more if I couldn’t drive it all summer.

Well in my honest opion there are no shops around the area that are rotary capabile. You dont need to pull the motor to pull off the install. Once the twins are off its pretty easy except for the upper manifold bolts can be a pain. I can walk you through it if you do need help. and who knows that car better?

 

very true. i want to pull the motor though so i can get some better mounts in there and those twins look really hard to get out. where should i route the waste gate to just have a pipe shoot out the side of the car?

 

I hear ya. You can still install the mounts with the enigne in. You can leave it vented to the atmo. just pointing it down towards the ground works well enough. You can reroute it back into the down pipe but it is all up to you. I can pull the motor on an FD in about 6 hours so thats not bad.

Every thing connected to them needs to be disconnected theres a water line on the rear of them thats a real pain. To remove them is kind of a sequence of bolts that comes off to remove them from the manifold. Once the down pipe is removed you sould be able to see the ones that need to un done. YOu can always give me a call if you need help.

 

yeah ok i see what your talking about. how is the 4inch down pipe i have for the gt40 going to work with the exhaust you put on the car?

edit: and where can i get all the gaskets i need to do this? just buy material and cut them myself?

 

Well you have a few options for the exhaust. The first would to just add a reducer down to three inch after the down pipe. The other would be to make a 4inch one all the way back goodfella has a Aspec 4ich exhaust on his car its around a Grand. The 4inch exhaust will help with a quicker spool on the car.

As for the gaskets you can usally reuse the ones you have aslong as there not burnt to hell. You can still order the manifold gaskets from mazda but they are spendy as hell. If you are looking for turbo gaskets any after market turbo company would have what your looking for like turbonetics, garret, and so on.

 

how bad is that reduction going to kill spool cause im not sinking a grand into the exhaust 3 inch is big enough.

the stock twins are oil cooled to right. so id just use the lines from those to go to the gt40?

 

well if its right after the down pipe it wont be to bad. Since the exhaust gas will cool and shrink it should be a problem. Yes you just use the same feed lind and use the forward return and cap the other. You will need a restrictor in the oil feed line or you will start blowing oil our the exhaust.
