Few questions for the pros

Hey all,

First off I would like to state I have read what feels like all the noob guides etc still have some things I would like a few more answers/stories/clarifications on.

That being said flame on if you feel the need.

Anyhow, I was recently given the chance to buy a 95 rx7 for 16.5k a brand new engine was just (matter of days) put in, and around 95k miles on the body. Interior is in good condition for the age of the car.

However, I'm crossed, I live in Minnesota snow is a pretty large factor in my purchase, people are saying these can not be driven in the snow at all, some say they can be etc. I've driven in snow since I’ve had my license (about 5 years now) all types of cars/trucks have plenty of experience on the snow.

Does anyone actually commonly drive these cars in winter? I know winter is hard on cars with the sand, salt, ice and, slush and all. However I can't really justify paying near 17k for something and only use/enjoy it a few months a year.

Also as far as breaking down often, or being a money pit..If they are treated well regular scheduled maint. and not racing (yes I would not be racing the car, or if I did it would be rare) how big of money pit do they actually get to be? At this time I’m not to interested in doing a lot of mods so it would remain basically stock. Anyone have these cars really smooth with no major problems for quite awhile?

(I would keep it stock for a couple of years until I had more time and money to invest into it, Then I would probably get into racing it, Wasn't really looking to buy one at this time but this one came up and I don't see many so I've been heavily considering it)

I do own other cars (car and a truck) but would still like this to be my primary if I bought it. But if had a storm etc could use one of the others.

Last thing, does 16.5k sound reasonable for a 95 with a new motor? And how long do the transmissions usually last? (Since I don't know last owner I would have to assume it was worked fairly hard)

Well that’s all, I'm mainly worried about the winter thing as I don't want to store my toy (if I get it) over half the year. Looking for some stories/experience with winter driving.

I drove my first gen in the winter once... Dont reccomend it. Tried it out in a 2nd gen vert too. Never went straight, only sideways. Which is fun, but when the speedo wont go under 10 and your feathering the gas it kinda sucks. 3rd gens have more power than the 1st or 2nd, so I will leave it at that. Just buy it and be happy with driving your car or truck around in the wintertime.

Or, move somewhere else...

I knew a guy that drove his z06 in the winter with snow tires. Why would you want your car to get eatten up by rust/salt??? I have a beater I drive year round, the 7 sits in the garage and comes out only on special occasions in the summer.

How about the price? seem fair?

Anything else I should maybe look for besides the whole turbo/5th gear/3000rpm know problems etc? other issues from known experience that may not be common knowledge?

How long do the transmissions tend to last?

16.5k is a fairly large junk of change just trying to get all my facts straight before I make the investment.
