Drift Avenue - Orland Park

I saw a thread that mentioned something about not being to get ahold of Drift and I'm in the same position, I can't get ahold of him at all. Okay, I heard everyone trusts Drift a lot, but listen to this. He's had my car since November. And that's it. He's had my car since November! He hasn't said anything to me about going out of business, and he still has my car!!!! He won't answer his cell and his shop phone is disconnected. To his shop I've sent a cease and desist order along with a demand to send it to A-spec. I've called my attorney and the OP police, they haven't started a full investigation yet, but they don't know where he or my car is at this point. If you guys can help me AT ALL, please contact me. I live in southern Illinois and need to make a trip up to Orland to file an official police report, but if you guys go by his place and see a black 3rd gen sitting in there, that'd be a lot better than finding pieces of it with my VIN scattered around the country. Thanks guys.

Yes, that's it man! He told me he had a guy that had an auto and was going to swap them temporarily to try to figure out what was going on with my ECU. Or he thought it was the ECU anyway. Do you have any idea how I can get ahold of him?

I haven't been able to get ahold of him for about a month... you said you talked to him last week??? If he's still working on the car, I'm not going to press charges or anything yet, but damn man, he hasn't told me ANYTHING about what's going on.

I talked to him last Thur or Fri. Don't know anything about your car. Not to make any excuse for him, but he said he went back to Hong Kong for some family business. I also heard that his mom is in the hosiptal last week. So if I get a hold of him, I will mention your car.

I was planning on going to Orland this weekend to file a stolen vehicle report, as I couldn't do it over the phone. However, if he is legitamitly and actively working on the car, I will put it off a bit IF I get ahold of him. But one thing I don't understand, if he is working on it, why hasn't he attempted to contact me? Another person could have already filed a police report on a stolen vehicle and pressed civil charges by now, which was my plan. i would like to avoid that whole mess, and maybe I can if I get in contact with him soon.

He's had the car for 6 months and I haven't been in direct contact with him for about 2, he said he'd have it done in about one month, so before this whole situation, I've been frustrated with him anyway. Well, as I said, if you talk with him, I would GREATLY appreciate you mentioning my car and the situation. Thanks a lot, it makes me feel quite a bit better than just being totally in the dark like I have been for a while.

Remember that I had no idea what was going on, where he was, or where my car was, and still the only thing I know is what you guys have told me.

Well, the front rotor had no compression so he was going to do a rebuild, then he opened it up and sent me pictures showing the housing all burnt to crap. He suggested I order a mazda reman, and he installed it. After he installed it, he couldn't get any spark. He thought it was the ECU because he said when he messed with the ECU wires, he got a LITTLE spark. So he wanted to try a different ECU. That's the last I heard.

That's....not really what a cease and desist letter is for....

You can't say "cease work on the car", you can just sue to get it back. You sure this was a lawyer?...and not....nothing?

I talked to Steve. He called you and you didn't pick up. He left you a message and his new #. You probably still has his old number that's why he didn't call you back. Anyway, he told me your car will be tow to A-spec later this afternoon. If you have any question, contact him directly. I just a messanger, so don't kill me

Actually if memory serves you can send notice that the shop has no permission to even touch the vehicle. However you had better get it removed promtly. Otherwise it becomes very ugly quick.

Well sure, but you don't need a lawyer for that. A post-it note that says "STOP FIXING MY CAR" will suffice. And then it becomes a matter of how much the shop decides to charge you for storing your car before they release it, blah blah blah

Yes. Last night while I was at work I recieved a voicemail message from Steve. I thank you for getting in touch with him and keeping the both of us out of an ugly situation. I didn't get a new number, but I have his old cell phone number which I think he said I could still get ahold of him by, even though I had tried for some time over the past month. Anyway, I'm glad this situation is probably over. I did have my attorney draw up that letter btw, I can scan it next time I get on here.

Thanks again, I was really concerned about the fate of my car.

Legally it should go by mail, and have required signature on delivery. This way there is no denying you got notified. If the shop has already defaulted on numerous agreements good luck at them getting storage fees court. They already have enough issues in court to deal with.

At my age I've learned to never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.
