Central wisconsin Rx7 owners

Im looking to know if there are any rotary shops in the middle of Wisconsin or any events ect. im board lol, i got the only rx7 in what seems like a 100mi radius. let me know if im not alone in the state :p

20Bforme 06-26-11 07:22 PM

you are not alone... but rx7 owners in WI are very strewn about.

as far as there being a rotary specific shop... i dont thing there are any... the nearest shop (that i would trust) would be banzai (http://www.banzai-racing.com/)

Jakester570 06-26-11 09:44 PM

yeah i didn't think there were to many people here that owned them, and i suppose the lack of a shop means i will learn to work on them my self lol.

that guy does know his shit... but i thought they stopped rebuilding motors... guess not!

dlek00 06-29-11 11:02 PM

There is Beyond Redline in Green Bay. I personally have not been there, but I believe Howard recommends them.

Jakester570 06-29-11 11:32 PM

i didnt see anything on the site about rotary work but if the need arises ill call them. but there really isnt much in wisconsin for rx7 shops. does any one know of people that rebuild tranny's

Jakester570 06-29-11 11:34 PM

also is there any annual rx7 car shows, or other events in wisconsin

Dorifter_LEXX 06-30-11 06:40 AM

http://www.rxclubofwi.org/default.aspx

CPR seems to specialize in only fd's....? Another guy I recommend is Randy @ Tripled R Autosports.

welcome to the site. there is just about anything you need to know available for you.

while wisconsin doesn't have the amount of RX7s that states having import ports (Florida, California, and the NE) have there are a surprising amount of RX7s about.

as to shops... i don't know Triple R but have worked w Beyond Redline in Green Bay and they do first class work. they are not mazda exclusive but know them inside out. as to transmission work i use John at UnderCar in West Bend. excellent.

i don't run a "shop." i simply build (only) 13BREW motors. and yes i am "still" building them.... i shipped one out yesterday, have another to ship monday and have one starting build and another enroute.

you should have no problem finding what you need in wisconsin.

good luck,

howard

Welcome aboard. I'm in Stevens Point, which is about as central Wisconsin as it gets. There aren't too many RX-7's around here, but there are some. There are plenty of FB's, very few FC's, and maybe like two FD's are in the area. Shops and tuners specific to RX-7's are few and far between in WI, so it's best to read, read, read & become your own mechanic when you own one around here.

geilkyle2 07-21-11 11:34 AM

I'm in Appleton with my FD

Primos003 07-27-11 12:27 AM

Eau Claire with my FC, I've seen a few FB's and FC's and only one FD in the area.

rotary83rx7 08-08-11 08:22 PM

Green bay hear. Have a fb and a fc. But have not seen many others in gb

Sgt.Stinkfist 09-28-11 09:31 PM

a lil late on the post but i run around madison area annoying people in my FB, will be my current DD until mid Nov. I know of a blue S4 T2, 2 S4 convertables owned by some old guys, a few other FB's and 1 FD also in the madison area. what part of the state are you at?

as for events, its not a rx-7 event, but there is supposed to be a track day at shawno on oct 8th

yellow 10-03-11 06:48 PM

Wow, there's that many in madison? I haven't seen a 7 in madison for a couple years, and it was an FD on east washington.

Anyways, I'm down by Monroe right now, but work just off the beltline in Madison. Trying to move closer to madison right now.

Sgt.Stinkfist 10-11-11 12:45 AM

yep, i know where most of the 7's are located in my area...kinda. the majority are on the south/west side of madison, where i usually run around. im positive there are more, but they seem to be quite reclusive animals around here...coming out only once a month...maybe :( im doin my best to leave ringing ears and teary eyes where ever i go to make up for the lack of everyone else driving their 7's.... tsk tsk

there was once even a time, several years ago, when i first owned my 79 SA and literally up the hill on my street was a red S4. 2 blocks away, within a block of eachother, was a gold FB and my current baby, my 82 :) and several blocks further was a 302 swapped FB

is this Jeff? or perhaps there is another blue S4 T2 im unaware of :O

...lastly ide like to say that the track day at USA international raceway in shawano was very fun this weekend. it was done as a standing start/finish autox at what is normaly a kart track...great elevation changes and lots of tight turns, and its too bad that few rx's were represented. there was a V8 swapped S5, an Rx-8 and me. im suprised i didnt kill my car, and how well my times turned out to be :D

NeilTII 10-29-11 08:23 PM

I have had my 88 TII in Appleton for the past 9 years (in storage). I have been in Japan the whole time but, I wish I was there to roll around with some local 7s. If/when I return rest assured, I will be out again.

What about ASpec Tuning in Schaumburg? Are they still around? If I ever find a decent FD around here I was hoping to use them since thats the closest shop to Milwaukee I could find.

rotorhead_izzy 12-07-11 10:44 PM

Yea they are still around. Went there this summer to see if they had a o2sensor for my wideband.

Smutterbutter 12-08-11 06:26 PM

What did you think of A-Spec? Do they still deal mostly deal with 7's?

rotorhead_izzy 12-08-11 08:09 PM

Aspec is alright. They share the building with another shop. Mostly fd's

fire104 12-12-11 12:37 AM

Im new to rx7's just picked up an SE a month ago.

Spirit-RE 12-18-11 10:59 AM

^post pics! Where do you live?

fire104 12-23-11 01:40 PM

I live in Madison. I haven't taken to many pics yet {it looks alittle rough} in the process of rebuilding the brakes and the fuel system. hopes are to have it track ready by spring.

Sgt.Stinkfist 12-27-11 11:44 PM

its about time there is another FB running around here in the madison area... i was getting lonely :( . where abouts in madison are you located?

fire104 01-01-12 01:08 PM

I live in Fitchburg

ineedfc 02-20-12 03:09 PM

sussex/oconomowoc here. usually somewhere between the 2.

FDnoobMaybe 02-28-12 03:57 AM

I'm local. What's up?

FDnoobMaybe 02-28-12 11:33 AM

Well, there's a beast that sleeps in waukesha, but I don't know much about it, I was wonderring if this was a local car and if someone knew anything about it, or if someone's checked it out. Had to come from somewhere right? Heres the link, and is that a missing passenger door handle? Idk, I wanna get it, and I know FD maintenance is high, but I don't wanna have to do an engine rebuild right away, even though the used dealership does warranty all there cars over $3gs, for 3k miles.

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

eidk 02-28-12 11:58 AM

I live on the eastside. I've seen that car on craigslist for a few months.

FDnoobMaybe 02-28-12 01:55 PM

so whats yours guys thoughts on it?
motor rebuild around 50-60k i guess then the rebuilt has another 54k on it, hopefully the owner took better care of the car 2nd time around?

xaulzan 02-29-12 04:08 PM

Im in Appleton and have an 88 FC TII, also had an 85 se that I restored and gave to my Dad, so its down in FL now.

xaulzan 02-29-12 04:11 PM

One thing I have noticed is that compared to FL and HI the mazda dealership here is terrible to work with. The guys in the parts dept are helpless, couldn't order me parts unless I brought in the printout of the parts manual and talked to the damn manager. Basically told me parts I knew for sure that mazda still makes don't exist... terrible. So whatever you do don't go to Bergstrom.

movingim 02-29-12 11:10 PM

I use Malloy Mazda. Talk to Ray they are excellent for RX7 parts plus get discount! Search posts for Malloy Mazda and Ray Crowe

Sgt.Stinkfist 03-06-12 02:01 AM

i can usually get what i want at the local mazda dealership here in madison, but you have to be patient. 1 guy is more than willing to help, while the other is the kinda guy who hates everything mazda, yet has been a parts slinger at the dealership for years...go figure

Spirit-RE 03-06-12 08:48 PM

Seen a red s5 vert at badger bowl in madison today. black TII hood, aftermarket exhaust, stock bbs wheels. Anyone on here?

ggoldfingerd 03-15-12 07:22 PM

I'm also on the east side of Milwaukee. My car has been hiding for the past four years since I was in school. The body is in rough shape, but the internals are good.

I hope to go to some meets this year. I used to go to some in Michigan.

Nice avatar!

20Bforme 03-19-12 02:15 PM

this thread still alive?

Sgt.Stinkfist 03-19-12 10:14 PM

...it twitches ocassionally

I was out and about driving like a dick and annoying people with my exhaust yesterday. Got some fresh fuel in her and intentionally went a lil heavy on the premix for extra lube action, roughly 40 miles, 2 hrs and probably too many 8k rpm shifts. But what can i say, i like the sound of lightly muffled duals on a 13B :) On my small excursion I found another FB rx7 and cruised with him for a few miles, and a lil bit later i was being "aggresively" followed by an Rx-8... but neither of them wanted to play with me :(
