Any good 3rd Gen FD shops in Illinois?
Hi guys and gals I am going to purchase a 1994 RX 7 on Monday and I was wondering if anyone had a shop they would recommend for repairs and maintenance. I live in West Chicago Illinois zip code 60185. I called my mechanic and he told me he does not mess with rotary engines. So any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What are you tryin' to have done? My parents own a service station and they've always had a mechanic on staff who has experience with rotary's. I've had my car for 5-6 years now and I've done almost every single modification/repair there.
Other than that, theirs always A-spec. They're actually a very good shop, just a little bit on the expensive side as well as slow due to all cars they're working on at any given point.

Well like Farhan said it depends on what you want to do to your Rx7. I live in Streamwood right noext to Bartlett and Elgin. My buddy and I have a 1st gen Rx7 and he also races 1st gens. with his father. depending on what you want done to you car we could probly do it for you. Were both pretty good with these cars; not just 1st gens., but 2nd and 3rd gens. as well. So like previously stated it depends on what you want done to it.

A-Spec is good but be prepaired for a long wait before they get to your car.

I was just looking for a shop for a possible rebuild and regular maintenance. I would like to do some stuff myself but I do not have many tools or alot of space to do it. Are rotary engines very complex?

I work in west chicago. I would recommend A-spec also. The reason for the wait is because they are all ways busy, wich is good thing.
Do you need stuff done right away after the purchase, or are you just being preparred?
Good luck,
Brandon

Well from what I have read I am just being prepared. I got a black 1993 Sunroof, manual, 3 inch Stainless Steel Exhaust, Blitz's BOV (Blow Off Valve), Hard Intake Pipes, BOSE CD w/ Subs in good shape with 146,000 miles for 9,000. The car runs good but I want to be prepared for anything.

Hey just let me know. I would love to get to meet some of my fellow RX 7 ( I can officially now say that) owners. I should have it at my house by Saturday if everything goes as planned. Then you guys can give me some tips on how to keep my black stallion running strong.

Well my buddy and I drive, work on and repair Rx7's. All the time. Him and his dad Race RX7's in Midwest Council Racing. And Some SCCA races too. So if it's just normal repairs and some modifications that you wanted to do then by all means let me know or I'll have him come on to this board. (he's Weed Wacker). Were also pretty much right next door to you to. It's just an option you can consider. Any questions feel free to ask. were all open for questions around here.
