Yes CVTC is in Eau Claire. I've never been there myself, but I hear that the events there are generally pretty good.

I should be making it to MOWOG 1-6 this year, hopefully. I'm hoping on going to one of the novice schools this year, and I may show up to some of the TnTs or COM events. I'm moving to Madison, WI at the end of August so I don't think I'll be able to make it to the events later in the year.

MOWOG 1 was a great success. There were 5 RX7s there (including my own). 2 FBs and 2 N/A FCs and a TII. Had a ton of fun and turned some times I was happy with.

I know there has got to be more RX7s in MN though, what's the deal guys? There is nothing to be afraid of!

Track time for these events is abysmal, that's the deal. I did one of these once and i could not even get any heat into the brakes and tires lol.

Are the test and tune days multiple cars on track at a time for 20-30min sessions? How many sessions?

DCTC tracks can get close to two minutes for some drivers. Thats incredibly long for an autocross event. Midway is usually really short though. Test and tunes are at DCTC and they set up two courses on each end of the property, and you get as many runs as you can. This way you are running the same track a lot, and can make changes to see how they work. This is autocross brother, not track racing.

Yes, it is completely open to the public man, just go to mnautox.com for more info. Anyone coming to M3?

I'll be at M3.

I agree that the amount of track time isn't that great, but considering the low entry fee and the very small chance of doing any real damage to your car, it's a great way to get started. I have a friend who's done a few HPDEs and while the track time is much more, the cost is also a lot more. Not to mention that it is door to door racing (with designated passing zones) and on a track with concrete walls and other immovable obstacles. It's all a trade off I guess.

As Super82 said, the next event is at Dakota County Tech on June 13th. Spectating is free. If you have any interest, come check it out!

I plan on being there this sunday the 13th. I am currently not registered but I have heard if you get there before 730 you will be allowed to race. The only thing that would hold me back is the wedding I am going to on Saturday....

You should try MAM. It is hard to find any walls there when you go off track.

I don't ever accept the excuse of the potential damage and costs being higher.

Brake pads are cheap. Tires can be made to last by driving style and proper suspension setup.

HPDE is FAR FROM Door to door racing. We have been running 3-4 HPDE weekends at MAM for about 7 years and have yet to have a single incident of car-to-car contact or car to wall contact.... We average about 30 cars at each event and potentially 2-3 HOURS of track time per day. You can go as long or as short as you want, you can go as fast or as slow as you want. There is really no comparison....

I would love to get out to DCTC again, it has been years since i ran with AARRF out there. I may see if the BMW boys are playing there any time soon. But for me it is only worth it if i can get long sessions where i can test the car. I simply get nothing out of a single lap, it takes me that much just to get tire and brakes up to operating temp.

I don't think this is right. They allow 10 walk-ins the day of the event, on a first come first serve basis. If you get there early enough you'll be fine, but its not as simple as getting there before 7:30 and you're guarenteed a spot.

I went out and watched for about and hour sun afternoon.

Was shocked to see they dont even run the full course and there is areas of the track where you double over?!?

Cars parked on the front stretch?! Cars bobbing and weaving?
Just not my cup of tea....

A lot of nice hardware sitting around out there though...

Don't any of you like to open up your car? Come top out 4th gear and shift to 5th before braking and see what RX-7s were meant for!

I have no idea what you are talking about regarding doubling over, cars parked on the front stretch, and driving in 4th and 5th gear.

This is autocross man. Most of the driving is done in second gear. There were definately no cars parked anywhere near the course, and you never double backed anywhere!

The track on sunday was awesome. Took me 90 seconds to complete and I hit speeds of 50mph.

Great time just wish we got more than 5 runs!

When we used to run DCTC we ran the full course. That area where a bunch of cars were parked outside the fence around the paddock is the front stretch. We used to run it on weeknights and get at least an hour of track time, just in the evening.

And i watched a bunch of cars on their "runs" drive on the same asphalt twice in a run...

What i mean is true track driving uses 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and sometimes 5th gear (often 5th gear in other 6-speed cars)... I cant imagine being stuck in 2nd gear or not exceeding 50mph the whole time, i would be frustrated beyond belief...the whole idea of it seems counter to what performance driving is...

I don't mean to get down on it at all, i just dont get the appeal of standing around all day for 5-10 min of total track time in 2nd gear under 50mph?.

At MAM there is no point where i even drop below 40mph. 120mph at the point of braking into turn 1. Once you experience real speed there is no substitute...2.25 miles in 1:45 to 1:50

For instance we are going to be at MAM this weekend! Car count is low so comon out!

We will likely run OPEN TRACK both days, meaning you could literally get 5-6 hours of track time per day if you wanted!

For $150 per day you can't beat that!

This sounds like a good social event, I also would like to be able to run out 4th gear. 50mph is walking speed... I would like to give a try once however! Looks like a great oppertunity to meet the guys in the state.
