What happens at the MRR?

I'm going to the ALMS race that weekend, and I'm driving my FC. What should I expect for the Rotary Rally? Does it cost money to get in? Do you set up cones and drive around? What things are going on rotary related? Is the MRR sharing all the facilities with the ALMS? What should I bring other than my 7?

A bunch of stuff happens at the MRR:

Tech sessions:
Last year these were off-site, which worked much better since the noise from the race cars is *very* loud. Topics vary pretty widely, from cooling, to photography etc.

Car corral:
There's usually a parade of cars to the track from nearby hotels, and there's a specific area at the track for just MRR people to park which fills up with rotaries. Most people leave their hood up so you can check them all out. Some very nice cars have been at the last few events. (3 rotors, show cars, etc) There's also been judging/prizes and raffle prizes as well. Owners are generally friendly and willing to talk about mods, etc. and there are some very knowledgable people who come.

Racing:
There is the actual ALMS race/Star Mazda race and a bunch of others. RA is huge so there's no shortage of places to go watch cars mix it up. Supposedly this year there will be the new Mazda sponsored Sportsbook.com (3 rotor) team to watch.

Paddock:
The paddock at ALMS races is open, so you can go watch teams work on their cars. Also, sometimes there are specific teams who let us into their area. Tri-Point (Mazda 6's and Proteges) and Downing Atlanta (4 Rotor! Kudzu) have let us stop by in previous years.

Touring:
For an additional fee ($50 or $70 or something) there are touring sessions over the lunch hour. There are usually some very nice cars out driving the track so you can watch them or join them. This is *not* a race, and there is a 'speed limit' supposedly of 70 mph, and no passing in the corners however driving is 'spirited'. I may have seen 115 in a straight once, but don't quote me on that.

Meals:
Generally there's one or two evenings where the group gets together and has a meal. There is occasionally presentations or Q&A sessions at this as well.

I'm planning on being there again, I've attended the last 2 and had a good time.

From experience, if you do go, bring:
A foldable chair.
Earplugs.
Water/cooler/snacks.
Sunscreen.
Rotary powered car.

the MRR has a new location at the track which will bring down the decibels a bunch. Road racing tracks monitor sound to the driver's side so all cars are built w a bias toward the passenger side. which was where we were. emphasis on were.

Cam and Candy Worth, owners of Pettit Racing Ft Lauderdale will be our guests. IMO no one knows more about the rotary than Cam. you will have plenty of opportunity to ask away... i believe they are bringing a 3 rotor tube frame RX8 with them.

we hope to see you. check around theis site for info... and check out the Starlight Motel. if you reserve by the 15th you might get a room and it will be all Mazda.
