Microtech Wiring woes

Ok I wanted to see if the microtech powered so I did a direct connection to a battery via I connected a wire to the slot the red wire would go into and then I took another wire and jumped to the slot where the pink wire goes. And of course ground to ground. It works!!! Then I took out the harness to see what was up. I did the same thing just with the harness connected. One pink wire did not power up the microtech but then the other did!!!
