your getting rpm errors which means it is not picking up at the right time, and there fore wont be firing the plugs at the right time,

i guantree it will be the CAS, wiring, plugs, wires or earth causing the issues,

if the plugs arnt firing right it WILL smoke,

also dont use heat shrink on the CAS wires, get a good connector like a MSD wetherproof or something like that, make sure you have all the wires in the right spot as well, if you have the earths back to front it will run but get errors and fire at the wrong time,

as for the map being wrong, they are BASE maps, made to get the car to the dyno, not to go and thrash it,

Good idea's Dale.

No the base map was not wrong, there was NO map. I managed to delete the base map when I first was playing with the system. Totally my fault, but made more difficult by the lack of map sharing, as I mentioed before.

Himni, Max gave a really good synopsis of what happened. I was dealing with numerous problems all at once, and chasing a smoking problem in addition. As Max mentioned my timing was all over the place, if yours is rock steady then you have nothing to worry about. I have faith now that I'll get everything solved and get the car running again. I have all winter.

rx turbo2, how did you delete your base map? Sounds like you did it pretty EZ. I want to make sure I don't do that.

That was the problem exactly. Nobody around here uses Microtech, I ended up buying another adapter that had the basemap loaded on it.

Himni I made a stupid assumption. I thought the base map was loaded on the adapter and not the unit. So when I hooked the unit up the first thing I did was load a memcal 1 on the adapter. A dumb move I know. So now I loaded an empty map and didnt save the base map. As you can imagine this is a pretty easy thing to avoid. Make sure you save the base map to the adapter.

RX7t2,

i have done that as well so your not alone there, took me about 20min to get the car running, the worset part was we were driving as i did it!! the car just stopped!

Himni,

on the wires to the CAS there are 4 wires, 2 are positive and 2 are neg, if you have the neg's back to front you will have problems, the car may still run but not as well as it should,

Kaboski,

yes it is possible to name and load a map on the dongle no problems at all.,

I'm still not understanding what you mean by "back to front" Filped around? (+ going to ground and - going to the MT)

there is 2 wires that go to each pickup, one is + and one is -, if you get the - around the wrong way ie put the neg for the speed on the home pickup it will not work correctly and get errors as will getting the + and - back to front on the pickup
